It’s a brand new decade and it feels CRAZY! I can’t believe we’re in 2020. But I’m also really excited about this year. 2019 was a total and utter shit show personally. I didn’t share much on here about what was happening, but there were some crazy family medical issues that brought me down and made me highly emotional. Everyone is doing well though, but it was emotionally draining. Plus, big and exciting changes happening in the people closest to me in my life. Which are super exciting, but change is scary and a lot of it at once can make you feel overwhelmed with a lack of control for the future. Or make you feel like you’re stuck and not moving your own life forward.
To say I’m glad to say goodbye to 2019 is an understatement
I’m looking to 2020 for some big changes in my OWN life though. I looked back at my 2019 goals here before writing this and realized I did a pretty good job. And I traveled to new places and checked off MANY new countries I visited (Germany, Belgium, Portugal and Spain!). I did NOT see a new continent so that is a 2020 goal. I did practice some french but am hoping to actually take a class this year now that I have some more confidence after practicing on my own. Also, I lost 12lbs in 2019 and took control of food and my body. It felt incredible!
In terms of work though, I definitely didn’t connect less. Instead, I think I worked MORE. It was a really great year for the blog and that’s a big thanks to YOU, my readers. It was also a really fun one with some of my most favorite projects ever. However, I did hire a little help in 2019. I have someone helping with small graphic design tasks. In the new year, maybe I’ll hand off more things to her in 2020 to help get me freeing up my day to work on bigger picture things. Or hell, allow me to go on more dates and be more social!
So with a little reflecting on what I did in 2019 and what I want to accomplish in 2020, here are a few of the things I want to do in the new year.
My 2020 Goals Both Personal + Business
See A New Continent
This one is from last year, but I have full intentions of visiting either Africa or South America this year. Or even if there’s a cheap flight to Australia, I’m going! My girlfriends and I do a yearly trip, this would be our third together, and we’re kind of all on board for South America. If you have any recommendations on favorite trips you’ve done there, please let me know!
Take A French Class
Another from last year but this time I’m keeping it WAY more specific. I think it’s time to sign up for an actual class. If you’re new here, I used to live in Montreal as a kid and learned French alongside french-speaking kids up until the 4th grade. It is IN MY BRAIN SOMEWHERE. I just need to pull it out! After a bit of practicing on Duolingo and listening to the podcast, Coffee Break French, I feel more confident in my skills!
I also have a good goal to work towards. Over the holiday break, I snagged an under $300 flight to Paris in November. It’s definitely a ways away and means I have plenty of time to learn. So the goal is to speak mostly French on that trip and actually do a good job! PS this is how I score my cheap flights!
Spend 2-3 Months In A New City
Okay, finally putting this out in the universe. I am so fortunate to live the life I do and can work from anywhere. I’ve grown bored of Atlanta and my routine and I am determined in the fall of 2020 to spend 2-3 months in a new city. I’m thinking of either Boston, Chicago or possibly NYC. If you know anyone subletting their apartment, please let me know. Pork will come with me too, so it must be dog-friendly! I’m terrified to do this, but I think I need to switch my life up and throw it all upside down in a good way. And I think this is the way to do it.
Hone In On My Practical Tips For An Elevated Everyday
I did a big brand refresh last year and it was the best thing I ever did for My Style Vita. I finally had a sense of what I was offering to you, my readers. Providing you with practical tips for a more put-together life is what I want to be providing in terms of content. Whether it’s how to effortlessly throw an outfit together, or how to make your life a little easier with tips and tricks, that’s what I like to talk about. I try to do this in helpful outfit posts that show different ways to wear things. Or in beauty posts that can be easy to recreate. There’s also easy entertaining, decorating or hosting ideas I share as well. Things don’t have to be fussy and I hope my posts show you just that!
But this year, I want to really focus on it. And make sure most of my posts have a clear call-out to these tips. Also, creating more content on Instagram that shows you how to live a more #elevatedeveryday.
Read 4 New Books
I only read 2.5 books last year. Pathetic, right? I finished Sharp Objects which I had been working on for years. Yes, that’s possible. I’d keep bringing it with me on trips but forgetting to read it. And I rarely read at home. But this year, I have a few books I want to try to get through. It’s also a great way to not binge Netflix or scroll Instagram. Definitely, a much healthier habit to get into.
Create More Newsletter Content
I love working on my newsletters and they’re such a fun way to share more content with you. Last year, I switched from Mailchimp to Flodesk which has the PRETTIEST newsletters. The platform is incredible and it’s made creating newsletters super fun and easy. This year, I’d love to share more original content within the newsletter.
