When the weather starts to feel a bit less wintery, and a bit more springy, I’m eager to jump all in. But wearing all your new spring things at once can feel a little off.
Transitioning your wardrobe from winter to spring can be a bit of a challenge. But this is one outfit combination I like to rely on. And it’s the easiest way to slowly peel off the layers, and add in a spring item or two.

A Winter To Spring Transition Outfit Idea To Try
A few of the tips I recommend when transitioning your wardrobe from winter to spring, is to slowly integrate your spring pieces, choose lighter weight fall and winter pieces to ease you into the new season, and think about color palette and fabrics. You’ll see all of these tips reflected in how I put this outfit together.

Start With Your Favorite Fall or Winter Dress
Sure I wouldn’t wear your heavy sweater dress here. I’d reach for those fall and winter dresses that are a bit lighter in fabrics. This Paige Elias dress is the perfect piece. It’s made of chiffon, is a mini silhouette, and has a slightly open neckline.
I’d also steer clear of wearing your most springy summery dress. We want to ease in and not go 100% full force into spring when we’re still in these few weeks of limbo between winter and spring.

Pair Dresses With Boots
This is a tip I think is meant for fall and spring. It allows you to ease into the seasons by baring a little leg to accommodate for the weather shift. But it still feels seasonally appropriate because boots are meant for winter! Knee high boots are a great option here, but combat boots like Dr Martens are good options as well.

Add Lighter Layers Like A Moto Jacket
Instead of adding my heavy winter coat to this dress, which I would do for cold winter days and it would be a great outfit, I’m reaching for a lighter layer. A leather moto jacket is the perfect piece to utilize for transitioning between seasons. Bonus points for a spring hue which we’ll talk about in the next tip!

Keep Color Palette In Mind
Here’s the thing about my color palette trick. I think you can do one of two things You can keep your more winter colors, but choose more spring silhouettes and fabrics. Or choose spring colors, and lean into winter fabrics.
This outfit adds a spring hue with this sage leather jacket that tends to feel a bit more spring. But it’s not a sage eyelet jacket, it’s leather. So it still feels right for the season.
And the brown is a neutral you can wear all year long so it’s not a hue I’m going to stress over here. And for the bag, I added a beige leather Coach Pillow Tabby bag to pull the look together. Instead of brown suede, this feels lighter.

Tips To Wear This Outfit For Winter
If you wanted to wear this in the dead of winter I’d make a few swaps. I’d add in a tight, you can even do a fleece lined one. I wore this with these espresso sheer Commando tights and loved the look.
Instead of the moto jacket, add a true winter coat like a camel coat. And if you need to keep yourself warm, you can wear a bodysuit under this to keep your core and arms warm. A layering trick that is definitely necessary in the dead of winter.

How I’d Style The Paige Elias Dress For Spring
This paisley tiered mini dress from Paige is one of my favorite things in my closet. It was a total splurge while I was on my hunt to find fall dresses and it really has become a closet staple for me. I love to get as much use out of possible of items in my closet and not just buy one off items.
For spring, I would wear this until it’s too warm for long sleeve dresses honestly. It would be perfect with a high top Converse. I even wore this with my red Adidas Gazelles and a cream sweater over my shoulder for another great spring transiton outfit.
You can also pair it with a tan or neutral sandal and a woven bag. The fabric of the Paige Elias dress really does let oyu wear it for fall, winter and spring. I’d leave this in the closet for summer.
