Last year I remember realizing that I had NO great raincoats. I was in Boston on a press trip and didn’t think to check the weather that closely prior to leaving. It ended up raining nearly the entire trip and I was not prepared at all. I brought my Club Monaco trench that has ZERO technology and was clearly just a fashion piece. It got soaked almost instantly leaving me wet, cold and kind of miserable. I was determined when I got back from that trip that I would finally buy a REAL raincoat. You know, one that protects you from rain no matter how hard it’s raining? Also, protect you against the wind, and your head from getting soaked. Novel idea, right?
Since then, I ended up adding not one, not two, but THREE raincoats to my collection. This yellow Joule’s raincoat is truly the most fun and fancy. It’s warm, fully waterproof and has a storm flap. Making it the ultimate coat you’ll need to stay dry from rainstorms. The other one I picked up is this Herschel raincoat which is a slightly more affordable and simple option. I use this one to walk Pork in the rain. It gets the job done and can easily be layered over a hoodie or sweater. Plus it comes in a dozen or so colors so you can find the perfect one for your wardrobe. This one is also waterproof, windproof and has sealed seams making it the ideal jacket under $100 to keep you dry.
Raincoats are essential for every closet unless you live in the desert.
I didn’t realize how important this one piece was until I got older. The great thing about a GOOD raincoat though is that it can really last all year long. For living in the south, we don’t get any snow days. Okay, we maybe get one, but you usually don’t even leave the house for it. The great thing about a good raincoat is that you can even wear it as a light winter coat if you need to. Just add a fleece underneath and you’ve got yourself a makeshift winter coat!
