Over the holiday break I headed to the High Museum of Art with my photographer and friend, Janelle. It was the perfect day to walk around the museum since it was cold and dreary out which is the perfect combination for museum afternoons. I went to the High maybe once while in college for an event and haven’t been back since. It was long overdue and now was the perfect time go back since they had a fashion exhibit going on, Iris Van Herpern.
Janelle and and I kept oohing and aahing over all the intricate details of these pieces. Each floor had different materials and inspiration that were used to create the collections. From 3D printing technology to create intricate feather details, to the most elaborate leather pieces I’ve ever seen. I was blown away floor after floor, dress after dress. Plus the shoes! They looked like something straight off Lady Gaga’s feet at a Grammy’s red carpet.
After walking through the exhibit, Janelle and I did a quick run around the rest of the museum. I think my favorite thing we saw was this giant metal concave dish that was just too cool for words. If you were positioned just right, your face took up every facet of the piece. And if you spoke, it was a whole other experience for your senses. I spent the most time just standing in front of it and moving around ever so slightly to get a different look and experience.
