If you’ve been following along here at An Indigo Day you know I talk about my oily skin. A lot. That’s because I am super duper oily. It’s both a blessing and a curse. Sure, the oil from my pores helps to hydrate my skin being a great anti-aging weapon. But it means I need to be pretty particular about my skincare routine and beauty products. I joke that if it’s not glued down to my face, it’s not staying. Primers are everything to me. Toners are a must, and my cleanser changes from season to season to combat the level of oils in my skin.

Beautycounter Products For Oily Skin
If you’re not sure what kind of skin you have, there’s a simple way to test it out. Usually, if you’re super oily or super dry though, you likely know this. But if you aren’t 100% sure, just wash your face with a really gentle cleanser. Like a CeraVe gentle cleanser. Nothing fancy, nothing targeted for oily or dry skin. Wash your face for one to two minutes. Dry your face by blotting excess water off your skin with a towel. Then let your skin just do its thing for twenty minutes. You should quickly notice if your skin feels super dry (this means you have dry skin!). Or if you feel like you don’t even need a moisturizer because you’re producing oil, then you’re oily, like me! If you kind of feel fine or not too dry, not too oily, you’re probably normal or combination skin.
Countercontrol Clear Pore Cleanser
All skincare routines should start with a good face wash. This pore cleanser is a gentle exfoliating cleanser that is ideal for oily skin. Usually, more oily skin can tolerate a bit more exfoliation and it helps to reduce oil. Jojoba beads are a gentle natural exfoliant and you can feel them working on your skin as you massage them in. This product removes makeup, dirt and oil.
Countercontrol Instant Matte Toner
A toner is a must if you’re oily. Once I added one into my routine, was when I noticed a big difference in my skin. My congested pores cleared up, my breakouts stopped happening, and my skincare products penetrate much better to do what they need to do. When shopping for a toner with oily skin, look for an exfoliating toner that has an astringent in it to remove excess oil. This one has witch hazel in it and the SkinBalance Complex. Apply with a cotton pad or reusable cotton pad and swipe over your face to remove any excess oil, dirt or dead skin left behind from your cleanser step.
Countercontrol Matte Effect Gel Cream
After you cleanse and tone, you’ll want to moisturize. Even if you’re super oily, a moisturizer can help to balance your skin back out after stripping it of oils from your cleanser and toner. This gel cream is mattifying, oil free and helps to improve skin texture.
Counter+ Overnight Resurfacing Peel
For a nighttime anti-aging product that helps fight fine lines and wrinkles, look no further than my favorite product at Beautycounter. The Counter+ Overnight Resurfacing Peel. This AHA and BHA peel helps with dullness, reducing fine lines and wrinkles and reveals smoother skin. If you’re scared of retinol, I’d recommend starting with this product. Since it can be a tad-drying, it’s actually pretty ideal for oily skin folks. If you are reading this and you’re dry, definitely add a night time moisturizer over this if you want extra hydration. Lactic acid, glycolic acid and citric acid all work to combat aging skin.
Counter+ Charcoal Facial Mask
An ingredient that is ideal for oily skin is charcoal. A weekly charcoal mask will help to clean out those pores and balance your skin. Before you do this mask though, read this post on getting the best results from a face mask at home. This charcoal face mask has salicylic acid and lactic acid which is are gentle exfoliating ingredients designed to remove dirt, oil and dead skin. PS more reasons why I love charcoal here!
