Here’s a fun fact about me and the great self employed life. I’ve been on three different insurance plans in the last 6 months. Not to go into a ton of boring detail, but between Obamacare and the ever changing plans offered year after year, it’s a mess. I have been with three totally separate insurance companies in less than 6 months. Do you know what it’s like to try to figure out what doctor you’re supposed to see when everything changes so quickly? It’s annoying to say the least. Having to call every single doctor, double check with the insurance people, it’s mundane obviously.
Plus, with traveling, there’s been many times I’ve had to see a doctor. There was that time in NYC during Juno that I had my first terrible, god awful, sinus infection (that started the string of sinus infections to appear every so few months). Then that time in San Francisco just a day before I had to head to Sonoma for Cathy’s bachelorette where I woke up with what felt like strep throat. Update, it was probably just another sinus infection. Finding a doctor that fit within my insurance plan was impossible. Oh and then there was that time last month when I realized I needed to visit urgent care ASAP for shingles and my new insurance plan literally started 30 days before. I had NO idea where I was able to go and was frantic in trying to call insurance, call urgent cares and figure out where my plan was accepted.
But you guys, I’ve found a SOLUTION! And I’ve never been more excited about a health app in my life. And this is why. Zocdoc is solving many of the predicaments I have found myself in lately. From my pain in the butt insurance, to finding new doctors and getting sick while traveling. The app helps you narrow down a doctor in your area, within your insurance and book for FREE. So if I find myself in another city needing to visit a doctor on the fly all I have to do is open the Zocdoc app! It helps to find a doctor by your location, insurance coverage and type of doctor. Whether I need to see urgent care, a regular doctor, GYNO or even an aesthetician, they’re on there and I’m able to book right through the app. A few other great aspects of Zocdoc are the fellow patient reviews. It’s especially great for me who is having to find new doctors every year with the insurance changes. Plus, I can easily upload my insurance card to share with the doctors office before I visit.
So if you’re a millennial looking to use apps for your healthcare, or someone who travels often, or simply anyone who ever needs to visit a doctor, I can’t recommend Zocdoc enough. Oh how I WISH I had Zocdoc years ago!
