Back in February I visited London and flew a new airline for me, Virgin America. As I stepped onto the plane I was blown away instantly. The airplane felt like it was right out of Austin Powers. Lots of neon pink and beautiful flight attendants with British accents. I loved it. But what I loved most was what they gave us before taking off.
We all got a little zip pouch full of in flight essentials. A tooth brush and toothpaste, ear buds, eye mask. The usual items when flying overseas. But one item that was in there that stuck out to me was their “High Altitude” oil spray. I sprayed a bit to see what it smelled like, and I was instantly hooked. It was designed to help relax and soothe you for your overnight flight so you can easily rest your eyes.
I napped hard and took the spray with me while staying in London that week. I unfortunately left it in my hotel room and never saw it again. On my return flight I sadly flew back on Delta and was provided no fancy aromatherapy.
After returning I knew I had to find out what the oil was. After a lot of Googling I finally found the origin of the oil. Turns out I wasn’t the only one as there were loads of articles on the mysteries oil on Virgin flights. It’s the de Mamiel Altitude Oil and it’s hands down the best essential oil for sleep. And yes, you need it in your life. It’s an amazing blend of lavender (which ironically I don’t like) eucalyptus and pine. It’s the eucalyptus that I think allows me to accept the lavender in it.
I’m not on the essential oil train that’s happening right now. To each their own, I get it. It’s non toxic, smells great; I’m into it but I’m just not into it. You feel me? But this oil, I’m INTO. As in, I put it on my hands every night along with this Aveda hand cream (that also has lots of similar scents in it). You can also dot it on your pillow if you like.
If you’re looking for a calming oil for your nighttime routine I can’t recommend this one enough. The price tag is high (it’s $44 a bottle) but I’ve had this since March or April and barely made a dent in it. Just one to two drops a night is all you need for great sleep.
