While trends come and go, sometimes it’s fun to just invest in a few fun seasonal accessories. Whether it’s jewelry, belts, or bags, these can totally update any look in a pinch. And also make them feel more interesting.
Sometimes just swapping out your everyday tote that you keep wearing around with something more fashion-forward, can make your simple look feel more elevated. It’s also a trick of mine to make outfits feel more interesting.
With each season, I like to use accessories to make my outfits pop, feel elevated and more put together. As we head into the new season, here are some of my best fall accessories to try to update your look in a pinch.
Take jeans and a white tee, my signature look, which can look completely different from spring to fall with the swap of an accessory. Swap your rattan belt for a suede one, your straw bag for a cool quilted leather one, and add in some layered gold jewelry. Or dare I say, silver jewelry for 2023!
You’ve just taken the same outfit from season to season and made it feel totally new and updated. All with just a few accessory swaps or additions.
Best Fall Accessories For 2023
A Cool Belt
One of my favorite belts in my closet is my Lecce Isabel Marant belt. It adds something cool and interesting to any outfit. Even just a black slip dress, I like to add my black one to not only create a waist, but add some interest and texture to the all-black look.
If you need more ideas on how to style a belt, you can read my tips here. It really helps to create interst, dimension and a waist.
Sleek And Thin Sunglasses
I feel like the sunglass trend has totally changed since 2020. What used to be big oversized sunnies as the standard, or aviators, are now sleek and chic sunnies. More elongated lenses. They feel very 90s but updated. I really love them and they totally make your outfit feel 100 times cooler. I
have a few affordable pairs in a few colors to switch things up. And I think this trend is here to stay for a while too. But personally, I don’t think you need to spend a ton on this one unless you really love sunglasses!
Oversized Sunglasses
Yes, these are still in and I still love them! Adding a pair of sunnies to your look instantly makes you feel cool. It’s just how it goes. So if you’re outfits are feeling a little sad or dated, try adding a fresh pair of sunglasses to the rotation to give your look a fashion boost. And if you’re not into the super sleek sunnies, you can still rock these if you want!
Fanny Pack
No these are not your dad’s 1988 fanny packs. But close! Seeing lots of cool fannypacks replacing our big ass tote bags. Minimal is in! Just throw in a card wallet, and your phone and you’re good to go. Everyone is wearing these across their chest like a crossbody. I did this recently and felt like such a poser. But it works.
These easily update your workout outfits too if you’re going from workout to lunch. You can wear these with a casual outfit too. Lots of cool options from sherpa, to pretty leather ones and more. So many options and ways to wear them with casual to cooler outfits too.
A Red Accessory
One of the hottest colors for fall is going to be RED. From red boots, to red sweaters, and yes, red accessories. We’re talking classic coca cola red color too. Not burgundy, not maroon, it’s simply red.
And one way to get in on this color trend is to simply add a bag to your look. If you’re more of a neutral person, try a red bag to add a pop of color and a bit of something fun and different to your look.
Quilted Or Woven Bag
Bottega Venetta put this on the map and now many brands are making their own versions. I’m always torn on choosing such a direct dupe, but you can definitely try some things that draw inspiration from the trend. Below are a few favorites. I just love a woven or guilted bag because they add a bit of texture to your outfit and this always makes outfits feel more interesting.
Western Inspired Belt
The western trend is here and we’re seeing it a lot in shoes. But also, belts. Just swap your standard leather belt with one of these cool western ones for a super quick update that feels very on trend. The bigger more ornate buckles are super cool and interesting.
These are also just a fun swap for your everyday looks with jeans. Instant update and feels like a statement piece without being too crazy.
Gold Hoop Earrings
A trend I think will never go out of style, a classic gold hoop. But here’s where you can have a little fun. Try a chain link one, or bubble gold hoops. Lots of fun and unique options that don’t feel like a simple gold hoop. Which in my book, is always a good choice no matter what.
Silver Accessories
Silver is having a major moment this season and we are not only seeing it in bags and shoes, but also in jewelry. I am loving the silver shoe trend the most and think it is way more versatile than you would think. You can see my 5 outfit ideas in silver shoes herehttps://www.instagram.com/p/Cw7pNgPAU5i/.
Silver bags are a great compliment to silver shoes, but also can be worn alone with neutrals or fun bright colors too.
Lastly, don’t forget silver jewelry. As someone who is a die-hard gold fan, this is a tough pill to swallow. But I am loving a good silver statement earring and you can totally mix it with your gold jewelry. Mixed metals is 100% acceptable!
Baguette Bag
I can’t believe I’m writing this, but yes the baguette bag is back. and in a big way. It’s at every retailer ranging from every price point imaginable. I always associate this accessory trend with like a Prada or Louis Vuitton baguette bag.
There are a lot of options to choose from where you can choose to add color and texture to your look. So many options to choose from. The Bottega Vanetta quilted bag is probably the cool girl update to it in terms of shape and texture.
White Crew Socks
This is the trend to jump on for all your athleisure and leggings this fall. Instant update to your leggings outfit for Sunday brunch when you’re feeling lazy. Adding the white crew socks with your Dad sneakers and leggings feels very on trend.
To make it, even more, fashion-forward, try an oversized jacket or vest to pull it together. And maybe throw a fanny pack across your chest while you’re at it.
But white ankle socks are a great option to also pair with loafers or maryjanes. You can learn more about which socks to wear with what shoes with this guide.
Printed Or ColoredTights
I’ve always been a fan of tights, but I feel like they always come in and out of being a major fashion moment. And I feel like right now they’re back. But we aren’t wearing them how we used to with riding boots and fitted dresses.
Hello, guilty! Exhibit A. Let’s mix it up and pair them with leather shorts and a sweater with a chunky loafer. Or a mini skirt with Dr Martens, exhibit B.
For fall 2023, we’re also seeing a pop of color with our tights. While this is a trend I think I’m going to skip, if you’re someone who loves color, this can be a fun way to add it to your looks.
Cute Ankle Socks
With all the new jean silhouettes, socks have become top of mind now. Showing our socks wasn’t really something we aimed for with our skinny jeans, but now we’re trying new silhouettes and showing off a little ankle.
For that, I also love an intentionally cute ankle sock with denim. Let a sliver of the sock show and match it with your outfit. It’s a nice finishing touch and a pop of color too. This trick also works with skinny jeans if you still want to rock them (here are some outfit ideas).
If you’re wearing a Chelsea boot with your skinnies and a little bit of skin is showing, just add a cool sock! It’ll also help keep your ankle warm and finish off your outfit. Need ideas on how to achieve this look? Check out my big guide to socks here!
Claw Clips For Your Hair
Don’t forget your hair when it comes to accessorizing your fall outfits. Claw clips are a must for 2023. Whether you have short hair like me, or long hair, these work for any length.
With so many options to choose from and sizes, you can find one to work with your hair length. So instead of a messy half top knot, try a claw clip instead!
How To Accessorize Your Outfits For Fall
Belt Your Dresses
This is just simply a good trick to do anyway to help create shape, and reign in all the fabric in more flowy and billowy dresses. Just choose a fall-inspired belt to lean into the season. I also use this trick when a dress comes with a coordinating belt. Swap it for a little something different!
White Crew Socks With Leggings
The go-to Rich Mom Walk uniform. This has taken over the athleisure looks. Plus, your ankles stay warm in the winter when you go on those walks! A win, win! Also cute with biker shorts.
Fanny Pack
Yup, that’s how they’re doing it! Whether you wear it with athleisure or dressed up with a nicer leather fanny pack, this is super on trend this season. Instant update!
Intentional Cute Socks
You can pull this off for any of those ankle-length pants you have. Or maybe a pair of skinny jeans that hits above a Chelsea boot, cover your bare skin in the elements with a cute and intentional sock that coordinates with your look. Blair Edie of Atlantic Pacific is the QUEEN of this trend.
Western Belts
I just love this trend so much and how Carolina has styled it. Also, love the quilted bag (another solid fall trend!). The blazer cinched with a western-inspired belt gives it a new look and feel.
The Sherpa Trend
This bag covers both the sherpa trend and the baguette bag trend. A two in one. I am also loving these pops of color in what seems like a world of neutrals these days.
Updated Tights
Cute printed tights are in but make sure you’re pairing them with new trends or you’ll look dated. Add a lug sole boot, a pair of leather shorts, and a cute sweater or blazer.
Socks With Loafers
This trend is one I’m loving. I was inspired by Charmed by Camille to swap the white sock for a black one (just felt less private school vibes to me) and it made all the difference.
