One of my favorite things about fall fashion is the boots. As someone who loves a good mini skirt and boot combo, I can’t wait for fall so I can wear this pairing.
Knee high boots for fall are always a fun item to shop for. While they can be a bit pricier, I try to invest in one good pair a year. Ones that will last a few seasons and aren’t too trendy.
And while I of course love a good ankle bootie or Dr Marten combat boot, there’s something really bold and truly makes a statement like a good knee high boot. Here are the best knee high boots for fall 2023.
Best Knee High Boots For Fall 2023
No matter what your personal style is, I’m sure there is a knee high boot that would fit your lifestyle. I think these are a great addition to your fall and winter wardrobe. They also help to keep you warmer on those bitter cold winter days.
Flat Knee High Boots
Flat knee high boots are a great comfortable option to have in your closet. While a riding boot is a classic, the trend has shifted slightly. Gone are the days of the sweater dress and Frye riding boots.
We are seeing more lug sole style knee high boots. And while yes you will still find a riding boot, they are more streamlined, minimal, and don’t have any major buckles or weathering of the leather.
Another trend to keep an eye out for are something like the Khaite Marfa Knee-high boots. These are a square toe flat boot and are beyond gorgeous. This toe box trend is going to be big for fall.
What To Wear With Flat Knee High Boots
Pair your flat knee high boots with skinny jeans (yes you can still do this even though we’re all loving our straight leg jeans). And even with faux leather leggings or leggings in general.
A flat boot is great to pair with a mini hemline too. This helps to make it feel more casual and not overly sexy. I like a flat knee high boot with winter shorts like a pair of leather shorts or wool shorts. One of my favorite go-to fall outfits is to style these boots with a wool mini skirt and tights.
Brown Knee High Boots
I think an essential pair of knee-high boots every woman should have in their closet is a brown pair. Whether it’s brown suede, or brown leather, I think you’ll get so much use out of this style of boot.
You can also go lighter with a tan boot or cream. These neutrals really are super versatile and choose one that works with your closet. If investing in a new brown boot, think of the bags and outfits you have in your closet and which color will work best.
What To Wear With Brown Knee High Boots
I for some reason find that brown knee high boots feel more casual. I tend to reach for these more than my black ones but that may just be how my closet is set up in terms of outfit options.
Wear your brown boots with all your favorite jewel tones and earth tone pieces. Pair brown boots white and creams for a neutral monochromatic look. I think a cognac is a great option that can go with browns and blacks. Because yes you can, here’s how to wear black and brown together.
Black Knee High Boots
I think a black knee high boot is the essential piece to have in your closet. Start with one in a heel height you’ll wear the most, then you can always add on! With so many options to choose from, there’s something for everyone.
I love a black leather for a more polished look. But black suede is also a great option. From stilettos heels to block heels to even wedges, or cone heels. You can find a heel style and height that works for you.
Choose a pointed toe, rounded toe or an almond toe shape. And there are even options for the top of the boot shaft. I love the more rounded western inspired like these.
What To Wear With Black Knee High Boots
Black knee high boots are so versatile. Pair them with tights and skirts or dresses. And they are great styled with denim.
Wear them to transition from summer to fall and pair them with your favorite printed dresses and lightweight jackets. I really love them paired with plaid wool skirts and a black sweater.
Black Block Heel Knee High Boots
Choose a block heel knee high boot for a more comfortable option that you can walk a ton in. From low block heels to high, wear these with more confidence.
Black Stiletto Heel Knee High Boots
A stiletto style knee high boot is so chic and stylish. These feel a bit more sexy and daring. But I love them with skirts and dresses. Below are some of my favorite black stiletto heel knee high boots.
Cowboy or Western Inspired Knee High Boots
The western inspired knee high boot trend is here! You can lean in really hard into the western trend, or there are plenty of options that have just a nod to the cowboy vibe.
From wooden soles, and embroidered detaling, these can be a nod to the western vibe, or you can really go full blown cowboy boot.
Wear these boots wtih dresses and skirt, but they would also be great with straight leg jeans tucked into them.
Moto Knee High Boots
The moto knee high boot is having a big moment this year. These are edgy, heavy and clunky. But I kind of love them.
We’re seeing them styled with dresses to really balance out the more masculine and tough vibe of the boot. But you can also pair with a straight leg jean tucked in (or a skinny jean if you want) and paired with oversized blazers or leather jackets.
Wide Calf Knee High Boots
For the girlies who need a little extra room in the calves, I got you. Wide calf knee high boots are a challenge to find. Especially cute ones.
Here are a few favorites to shop from flat boots, to high heeled, and everything in-between.
Waterproof Knee High Boots
And for those wet days of rain and slush, here are some great waterproof knee high boots to choose from. Ones that aren’t just a Hunter rainboot.
One brand I love to browse for waterproof boots is Blondo. I wrote a review of the Blondo waterproof boots that just don’t look like rainboots here. They are quality boots that are cute and functional.
Don’t forget, when buying knee high boots, you’ll want to store them properly. You can learn more about how to organize your boots here. And to keep those boots upright in your closet, these are the best boot shapers for tall boots. They don’t take up any space when you’re wearing your boots, and help to keep the shape of the boots while they’re sitting in your closet.
