I have to be honest, this is maybe one of my favorite looks. So simple, yet so perfect. When it comes to fall dressing, it’s all about the light layers. And that’s why I’m a big advocate for the light trench. I realized after pulling this Evelrane trench out, that I may have a slight trench problem. It’s one of my favorite pieces in my closet and for many reasons.
Why I Love A Light Trench For Fall
Light And Comfortable
Trench coats are such a nice lightweight jacket. They don’t make you feel bulky, or heavy. And they don’t weigh you down. Plus, they’re not going to overheat you. As a notoriously hot-blooded person, I can not be bothered with heavy fabrics or layers. And that’s why the light trench is my favorite fall layer. It’s a close second to my utility jacket.
Flattering Silhouette
The best part about a trench is that it’s cinched at the waist. Sure you can wear it open, and if you plan on wearing it that way, I just recommend wearing more fitted items underneath to show off your shape. But when you close it up and belt it, it’s the most flattering jacket there is.
Depending on your body shape and height, you may go with a shorter trench that hits at the hip, or something a bit longer. I would almost hem today’s Everlane one a tad as it is super long for my 5’5″ frame. But I like the movement of it so much!
Outfit Maker
A good light layer can make an outfit. Today’s look is proof. Just jeans, a white tee and a brown heel. It’s the sage green trench that makes this outfit sing! One of my go-to style tips is to add a third layer to make an outfit more interesting and feel more put-together. And a light trench does this effortlessly.
Shop The Look
PS these shoes are a new closet favorite from ABLE. A brand that I’ve recently learned about and just love what they stand for. Take 15% off any full-price item with code INDIGODAY15. These shoes run true to size and are so insanely cute and comfortable. The perfect sandal to transition from summer to fall with.
The rest of this look is really just some closet basics. A favorite pair of straight jeans from LOFT (I wasn’t lying when I said I was a big fan of their denim!). And a basic white fitted tee. This one from Madewell is a favorite lately. I like the fitted tee paired with the trench and more relaxed denim. It polishes off the look and doesn’t feel sloppy.
