I love when pieces in my closet last year after year. Especially when it’s MANY years. It means spending less money and really diving into your personal style. This entire head to toe look has been one of those. A true classic summer look that’s timeless, effortless and looks put together. And the best part? It was minimal effort. I love when outfits work out that way.
Anytime I think of a classic summer capsule wardrobe, these pieces are definitely in there. There’s just something so simple, put together and timeless about a cotton or linen button up paired with blue denim shorts. They just go together! And these accessories last year after year and never go out of style.
My Summer Wardrobe Classics
Classic Linen Button-Up
A classic linen button-up is essential. I have a couple, but my go-to lately is this one by Grayson. A fantastic brand that makes a really great button-up shirt. I also have a lighter more flowy version from Lily Pulitzer that’s surprisingly lasted for years as well. It’s the piece I grab to throw over a bathing suit, great with any jeans from spring to summer and even early fall. But if you’re looking for the best summer linen shirt, this is it.
Denim Shorts
You all know I love my denim! And summer denim shorts are a true staple. I’ve been wearing less of them this summer though and leaning more into these relaxed linen ones. But denim shorts will always be my #1. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve definitely gravitated more towards a fit that’s more grown-up. Longer inseam and a mid-rise are just a more flattering way to go. This look would also work with a denim skirt.
Lace Up Sandals
I’ve worn these lace up sandals for years. So much so I wore through the heels and had them re-soled. They’re a nice update to an everyday slide or flip flop. They work nicely with dresses and skirts too. Come fall, I’ll usually wear these with jeans until I’m ready to grab my booties.
