One of my 2020 goals was to read at least a book a month. I’ve actually been pretty good so far. I finished Verity while in The Bahamas, couldn’t put it down. It was insanely good. And it got me excited about reading which was good. I’m definitely trying to not waste my time on books either. My friend Emily who’s a BIG reader recommended that if I get 10% through and I’m not into it, toss it. It’s hard to do because there’s definitely book FOMO. For example, I started reading Followers. Not into it. But so many people loved it that I’m trying to power through.
The Books I’m Reading
Open Book
By Jessica Simpson
If you were ever a fan, even a small fan, of Jessica Simpson, you’ll love this insider look at her life as a pop star. It takes you back to her childhood and upbringing. So many jaw dropping struggles she went through from a kid to adulthood. A must read if you grew up on TRL.
Verity
By Colleen Hoover
Couldn’t put this down. This book reminded me of Gone Girl but with a more interesting storyline. It had that same suspense, page-turner, kind of feeling. This romantic thriller takes you into the mind of not one but two authors. And you are on the edge of your seat as one author is asked to finish a series for a famous author who has been involved in an accident leaving her unable to write (or speak!). The story unfolds as Lowen discovers an unfinished autobiography.

Quiet
By Susan Kain
I’ll be honest, this one was hard to read. I ended up doing it on audiobook. It was a lot of information, but, if you’re an introvert, it’s super interesting. Lots of great information on why we are the way we are. And also ways to deal with these traits to make social settings less overwhelming, to how to navigate relationships and more.

In addition to the above, I also read Conviction. I attempted to join a book club this year and have failed miserably. Read one book, didn’t go to the happy hour. I didn’t read the next book. Whoops. Conviction was so-so. I also read The Testaments over the holiday break which was another amazing book. I highly recommend if you like Handmaids Tale. I’m still working on reading Followers. I’m having a hard time getting into it. The present/future mix is really annoying in my opinion but I’m powering through. It was so highly recommended by several people.
I also have a growing list of books I want to read. A few on my shirt list include The Idea Of You, The Kind Worth Killing and All The Missing Girls. I love a good suspense book so if you have any recommendations, leave them below!
