When it comes to getting dressed on the morning of Thanksgiving I always struggle. Yes, the fashion blogger struggles too. But that’s why today’s post is happening. I’m always trying to feel as comfortable as possible since I plan on eating ALL OF THE THINGS.
As in, I’ll devour some pumpkin pie in an embarrassing amount. But I also want to feel put together. Our family gatherings are very casual so there’s never a need to get super dressed up. Fingers crossed that’s the same for you too.
Although we’re casual, I do have to put in minimal effort like pants and a bra. As much as I’d love to show up at my parent’s house on Thanksgiving in sweatpants and my laziest sports bra, it just can’t happen.
Often times this is a great opportunity to snap family photos together while everyone is in town. So you kind of HAVE to be just a tad put together.
But don’t worry. I’ve got several great ideas for casual Thanksgiving outfits to recreate for the holiday season. I’ve gone through some of my favorite fall outfits over the past few weeks and years and rounding up the best ones to wear for T-Day.
So ditch the tights and high-waisted skirts, Thanksgiving is about comfort, overeating and taking a 5 pm nap. Here’s what to wear on Thanksgiving to ensure optimal comfort and style with minimal effort.
6 Casual Thanksgiving Outfit Ideas
Sweater Dresses
Probably the best thing to wear because it looks like you’ve tried by putting on a dress, but really it’s just a giant sweater that’s insanely cozy. I feel like this is a win-win.
You can also go in so many directions with your shoe choice. Obviously, an ankle bootie is great for fall, but you can also choose a comfortable sneaker or a pretty flat for a more feminine vibe.
Leggings & Sweaters
Okay, so this is SUPER casual. But in my house, this would 100% work. And yes, these are my Lululemon Align pants. You can also do some Spanx faux leather leggings if you like too.
If you aren’t a sneakers gal, an ankle bootie works here too! You also may remember this post on 4 ways to style my favorite yoga pants. All of the options like a great knee high boot with a long cardigan are great casual Thanksgiving outfits that are also super comfortable.
Jeans & Sweaters
The go to combo if you ask me. But to make this feel a tad more dressy, just add a block heel and you’re good to go. If you’re refusing to wear heels on Thanksgiving, totally fine. Just throw on a great flat or loafer. It’s all still casual and effortless while still being pulled together.
Easy Layers
A super easy trick to look put together but not really trying is to do some great layering. A chambray shirt paired with black jeans and a light suede jacket is an eye-catching way to be put together and comfortable. You can also swap out these skinny jeans for wide-leg jeans and it would still totally work!
Cozy Cardigans
More ideal layering, a great open cardigan is such an easy way to dress up jeans and a tee. It’s cozy, it’s flattering and a third piece always rounds out an outfit making it feel put together. You can swap the heeld bootie for a loafer, or low heel for something more comfortable. And just make sure these jeans are your stretchiest!
Faux Leather And Leopard
This feels a touch more elevated than leggings and a sweater. I went with faux leather leggings, a little leopard mule and an oversized denim shacket. Easy, comfortable, and effortless.
