I’ve been through my fair share of rugs over the years. From the old school IKEA ones that we all hd in college that were hideous and usually grey. To morocon style rugs that were trending for years. And really, everything in between. I’ve gone from colorful kitchen rugs like this hot pink one from my all white kitchen, to a more muted yet still colorful version I now have.
Kitchens are a great spot to add a colorful runner to them whether it’s right in front of the kitchen sink, or in a larger area where there’s heavy foot traffic. Either way, having a colorful kitchen rug is key to sprucing up your space, adding some color and style to your home.
Colorful Kitchen Rugs
One of the best parts about a kitchen runner is that it can be that pop of color your all white or all black kitchen needs. The ideas are also endless. You can go bold and bright with pinks and orange, or you can go colorful yet muted in tones with varying reds and blues. It really just depends on your personal style and coordinating it with the rest of your home.
I would definitely recommend keeping the rest of the home in mind when selecting a kitchen runner. The moment I redecorated my living room and moved my bold Aztec rug out of there, I knew I had to swap out my hot pink kitchen runner too.
Yes, I once had a hot pink kitchen rug which you can see here! It just didn’t work together. So keep this in mind when picking out a kitchen runner. And if you’d like to see what I ended up with, you can check out this post to see my current kitchen situation. My rug is colorful yet muted!
Where To Shop For Kitchen Runners
There are a few great go-to stores I love for browsing kitchen runners or kitchen mats. And depending on your budget, one of these are sure to work! If you want to go super affordable or splurge a little, I’ve got you covered.
I really love Rugsusa for their insane prices and options. I’ve had several of their rugs and the quality is usually pretty good for the price. Wayfair is always a great choice with even better customer service and shipping options. And if you want to go more unique and usually a bit more expensive, Etsy has really beautiful vintage options as well.
For a runner that’s easy to wash, there’s also Ruggable which I have heard great things but have not yet personally own. They’re easy to throw in the washing machine making it a great option for a kitchen rug as they tend to get pretty dirty.
This all white kitchen gets a bright colorful update with the hot pink and navy runner.
When your space is all white you can really go kind of crazy with your rugs and this is a fun option to add to your home. White kitchens can feel a bit boring and drab at times so going in with color for your rug is a really easy decor update that can make a big impact. Easily update your countertop accessories to compliment the rug too. Or work off your countertop pieces to pull it all together with a rug.
When your kitchen is already colorful, you can go one or two ways. Go neutral with your rug or bring in some more color! These mint cabinets get a coordinating pop of color with this larger kitchen are rug in bright pinks and oranges. Somehow this works with the mint green and think it’s such a fun play of color. It’s eclectic and vintage feeling all at the same time.

This is one of my favorite kitchens and rug combinations and what inspired my own hot pink rug many years ago. The all-white modern kitchen from Becki Owens who is a decor genius, gets a pink pop with this stunning runner. With varying shades of pink and a few neutral spots, it doesn’t feel TOO much for the space.

And as always, you can go for the more muted pinks if pink overwhelms you. It’s still considered colorful even if it’s muted! I love the mix of pinks in this rug and have rounded up a few more pink runners below to get a similar look.
