Do you travel back to the same places? I started to think about this on our latest trip to Charleston. A city I keep going back to. Why do we do it? Why aren’t we out exploring new places? I think there’s a bit of nostalgia going back to the same cities. But also, why mess with a good thing too, right? It got me thinking though. How do you go back to the same places but make it feel new and different? Instead of always doing the same activities and experiencing the same things over and over again, how can we make it fresh and make new memories?
Do You Travel Back To The Same Places?
When my friends and I went to Charleston on this last trip it sparked a blog post idea. Love when that happens. We keep going back to Charleston but we almost always make it slightly different. That’s why I love going back so much! We do a few of our same must visit favorites like oysters and rosé at 167 RAW to smoked oysters at The Ordinary. But we’ve always done something totally different each time. Whether it’s staying at a new hotel in a new part of town for us. Or attending a unique event like Wine + Food Festival.
Each trip becomes slightly new and different. And that’s why I love going back. This year I have tried to challenge myself to visit NEW places. I’ve been doing pretty good between my Louisville trip, Germany and Belgium. Plus an upcoming trip to Spain and Portugal. I’m on a roll! But if you asked me to visit Charleston next week, I’d say heck yes. Here are a few tips on visiting the same places, but making it feel brand new again.
Tips To Visiting The Same Places And Making Them Feel New Again
Stay In A New Part Of Town
Whether you’re in a new hotel, or a new part of town, switching up your home base can make a big difference. You may end up closer to a new restaurant or bars, or a new neighborhood vibe. I loved doing this in NYC this past trip. We stayed in the Lower East Side and it made such a difference for making yet another NYC work trip feel totally new.
Try New Restaurants
Cities have new restaurants popping up all the time. A simple search of “new restaurants in [insert your city]” with the most recent year will likely result in a ton of new spots you never would’ve thought to try.
Take A Different Adventure
I think Charleston was a great example of this. We go all the time and it was great to do a festival while there on our last trip. It was such a great way to experience the city all over again. Look for neighborhood festivals or activities happening that season. Or explore the city in a new way by bike or foot.
