I don’t think I ever thought I’d be living in the South as long as I have. As someone whose family is from New York, and personally lived in NY, Montreal and Oregon, the South never really felt like home. But here I am, 15 years later and I guess I’m now “southern”. That’s a stretch, I’m far from your quintessential southern gal. However, I’m definitely thriving in the south living my best life. One thing southern gals have to deal with is figuring out how to wear fall staples when it’s hot out. Sure we don’t HAVE to wear fall staples, but we WANT to. It’s October, we want to get into fall fashion but we also need to deal with the 75 degree weather (sometimes upwards of 85). Last week we hit mid 90s! If we want to wear fall staples we have to be strategic about it.
How To Wear Fall Staples In Hot Weather
Wear Shorts
A few of the ways I like to embrace fall in the south without sweating are keeping my shorts out a little longer. Adding fall layers and fabrics helps me to feel like it’s fall without actually sweating. And now that the temperatures have slightly dropped thanks to the hurricane that just went through, jeans are now on repeat. But again, I don’t want to sweat! That leads me to my next tip!
Short Sleeve Sweaters
So finding great short sleeve sweaters, or wearing a lightweight scarf over a tee is a fun way to wear fall staples in the southern heat. A short sleeve sweater is probably one of my favorite pieces to have in my closet. I wear this one in today’s post SO often I have to invest in a few more. I’m super hot blooded so having these even for winter are ideal so I’m not wearing tees.
Lightweight Scarves
Blanket scarves are always a fall and winter favorite to grab. Whether you want something bold and colorful, or classic and plaid, there’s something for everyone. Scarves are such an effortless third piece to add to your outfit. They’re also affordable, win, win!. Not sure how to tie a scarf? I did a super fun video last year with Garnet Hill on 4 ways to wear a scarf or wrap. There are some unique ways to style a scarf and they’re so fun to incorporate into your looks.
