I was turned on to Follain Skincare a couple of years ago and have tried many of their products. There are several that I have in rotation from their collagen boost serum, their gentle eye cream and the detox mask. I have really enjoyed trying these products and learning more about this clean beauty brand.
Follain Skincare Review
Founded back in 2013 in Boston by Tara Foley, this skincare line is all about naturally potent botanicals and high-performing synthetic ingredients to create an effective skincare line. Because of their use of botanicals and high-performing synthetics, Follain claims to be a clean skincare brand. This is a term I personally don’t like as there are not any guidelines around this in the industry. However, I know people do make their skincare decisions based on this and this brand does claim to be clean for those who are interested.
Back in 2022, Follain was acquired by the clean beauty retailer, Credo Beauty. Follain is now exclusively sold on the Credo website. If you’re not familiar with Credo, they have a vigorous process of choosing the brands and products that they sell online to meet their clean standards. While there are not formal guidelines in the United States, I know that Sephora Clean and Credo Beauty set a bit of a general standard for those who are shopping for “clean” beauty.
Follain Ingredients
Follain uses a lot of great ingredients that you want to see in effective skincare. From BHAs to AHAs to combat aging skin, to the natural retinol alternative, Bakuchiol, and lots of great peptides, niacinamide and Vitamin C. All of these are ingredients I look for in my skincare products to deal with dull skin, fine lines and more.
Is Follain Cruelty Free
Yes, Follain beauty is cruelty-free.
Is Follain Pregnancy Safe
Follain skincare line is pregnancy safe. It is recommended to avoid BHAs when pregnant and there is one product in my roundup today that features BHAs. Otherwise, most of the collection is pregnancy safe for expecting moms.
Best Follain Products
Dual Detox Mask: Purify + Resurface
As someone who has very oily skin and big pores, I love a good resurfacing and charcoal-style mask. This one has Kaolin, Bentonite, and Montmorillonite Clays that help to detoxify and decongest your skin. And then the AHAs like glycolic acid and lactic acid, BHSs like salicylic acid and PHAs like Gluconolactone all help to exfoliate your skin for a spa like facial at home.
Hand Cream
This is one of many hand creams I always have around. It’s not fragrance free, but honestly, whatever fragrance it is, I can’t really smell it which I prefer! This is a nourishing and non greasy hand cream with Vitamin C, peptides and shea butter for ultimate hydration for your dry skin.
Brightening Serum: Vitamin C Boost
I think everyone should use a Vitamin C serum. It’s great for any and all skin types and helps to brighten dull skin and help to even skin tone. This product has 5% vitamin C and niacinamide to help reveal brighter skin.
Firming Serum: Collagen Boost
This is a great serum for anti-aging to tackle fine lines and aging skin. With 1% Bakuchiol (which is a plant-derived retinol) along with peptide and niacinamide. These are all ideal ingredients in a daily serum for combating aging skin. Always use this with an SPF on top.
Eye Cream: Firm + Brighten
The perfect gentle yet effective everyday eye cream. It helpt to firm, de-puff, brigthen and tigthen. From ingredients like Bakuchiol, vitamin C, peptides, caffeine and squalene, along with a few others, this is a multi-purpose eye cream.
A Few Other Notable Products
Since I my skin type is very oily, I have only tried some, and not all, of Follain products. In addition to the above skincare products, they also have several daily cleansers for both oily and normal skin. And a body scrub that is great if you have Keratosis Polaris. They also offer candles and their Everything Soap which is a refillable hand soap. It comes in several scents like lavender and lemongrass.
Is Follain Skin Care Worth It
If you’re just starting to get into skincare, I think Follain is a great introductory brand. While the products are effective and have active ingredients, I have found that they are not as potent as some of my other skincare products. If you have sensitive skin, I think this is a great line to try. If you’re also on a budget, this is a great price point for quality clean skincare.
I use all of the products above and enjoy them. But I just feel like I have other products that have a higher percentage of active ingredients. I especially like the mask and the hand cream. And I think every skincare cabinet should have a gentle everyday moisturizer without SPF that you can use at the end of the day or over active ingredients to help hydrate.
