The hold my Matty M beaded flowy going out tops had on me in my early 20s was insane. I always had to pair them with my Hudson bootcut jeans and a sensible 4-inch platform peep-toe pump.
What were we doing? I’m not really sure. Clearly getting very drunk at bars and looking ridiculous. I also loved a good corset top back then. Somehow those made a comeback but in a new way (as they always do, right?).
One of the number one questions I get asked is what are we wearing out? And I have to be honest, I don’t know if I totally believe in building out a separate wardrobe of just Going Out Tops™. I think we can maximize our current closet and mix and match things to create totally acceptable going out looks.
I also think it’s all in the styling. You can totally take jeans and a button down and turn it into something sexy for going out. Unbutton it a bit and let a black lace bralette peek through. Add layers of gold jewelry and a sexy strappy heel.
And voila, you have a going out look. This is usually how I like to approach my Going Out Uniform™.
But if you really want to add a few specific pieces to your closet that feel a little more special, today’s post is for you. These are some of my favorite Going Out Tops™ that you can easily pair with a pair of your favorite jeans and a heel for a fun date night or girls night out.
Going Out Tops To Wear With Jeans
While browsing Revolve recently, I stumbled onto this really cool button-down off-the-shoulder top. It’s just a fun take on a classic. And to me, just screamed Going Out Top™. But not in an obnoxious way.
I also feel like it’s a top I would still wear out during that day. I think tops that are versatile as a top for a night out, and for the day, are key. When thinking about pairing your nice tops with a pair of jeans for a going out look, you have lots of options! You don’t need a whole new wardrobe.
Grab your favorite black jeans, straight leg denim, or even skinny jeans, to create the perfect looks for a night out with friends. Below are some of my favorite Going Out Tops™ to go with jeans from classic and versatile, to exclusive for a night on the town.
Corset Style Tops
I love this trend to pair with denim. And for fall you can just add a layer over it like a moto jacket or blazer. I think these are so sexy and fun. I’d style a corset style top with high rise wide leg jeans or straight leg jeans.
I’d probably leave the skinny jeans in the closet for this. Tight on top and bottom is something we’re no longer doing. And since many corset style tops are a bit of a crop top style, I would also steer clear of skinny jeans with crop tops. The looser fit on the bottom better balances this style on top.
Embellished Going Out Tops
If I went out more often, I’d probably invest in a fun embellished top or two. I think these are fun for special occasions like a trip to Las Vegas when you want to feel sparkly and bold.
Whenever I think of pairing jeans and a nice top together, something embellished is always a good idea! A lace top too is perfect for this.
Off The Shoulder Going Out Tops
What sparked this entire post, is this fun off-the-shoulder top. I’m usually anti off-the-shoulder pieces, but this asymmetric look just felt so unique and fun. There are so many bodysuits that also have fun cut out details and one shoulder options to try.
Shoes To Wear With Your Going Out Tops And Jeans
When it comes to finishing off your look for a night out, I like a good strappy shoe. And as I get older, I also realize I like a comfortable block heel too. These shoes are the perfect happy medium.
Personally, I really love a slingback for a night out. Something is just sexy about a slingback. It shows off more skin, maybe that’s what it is.
And to round out the options, I love the concept of a simple top and jeans paired with a fun statement shoe. Let the shoe be the going-out piece! Below are some of my favorite heels to pair with your jeans and a Going Out Top™.
