Sometimes with short hair, it can be frustrating not having any updos to accomplish with your length. That also especially holds true for me with such thick hair. Doing any sort of updo on my own is basically impossible. Rachel from Coleman Alexander Salon though is here to help solve that issue with the perfect half updo for short hair. It’s really as simple as it looks in that it’s just a knot. Two pieces pulled over and under one another. Here’s how we did it.
How To Do The Half Knot Updo For Short Hair
Step One
Start with curled hair (or however you want your hair, we went with my signature loose waves). I like to add some texture spray into my hair to give it some grit. This will allow the knot to hold better too over time.
Step Two
Take two sections on either side and pull them back as if you’re putting your hair into a half up pony.
Step Three
Cross both pieces over one another, and then take the bottom piece and cross it over the top one again (so it all points downwards at the end once you’ve knotted it). It’s a double knot basically that gets secured with bobby pins in the next step.
Step Four
Secure with two bobby pins in an X underneath the knot to hide the bobby pins and secure it all.
Step Five
Pull a bit of the hair out to loosen up the look around the top or sides. This just helps it to feel less pulled back and slick, and instead a little more casual and relaxed. Then finish with a good spray of hairspray.
This is the perfect half updo for short hair but can easily be done on long hair. I love how simple this is yet it looks so pulled together and pretty fancy with the loose curls. This would also be cute with your hair straight but with lots of volume and texture spray in it.
