Something happened within the last year. My dog, Pork, a Boston Terrier who recently turned 11, started keeping me up at night. A lot, actually. As a smushy faced dog, she actually wasn’t a big snorer. I would every so often, definitely not nightly, have to nudge her if she was snoring. But because her nose is pretty pronounced for a Boston Terrier, she never was SUPER snorty. A blessing, really.
But this past year something changed. I’m assuming it’s her age as her vet doesn’t have any concerns it’s from anything else. Her snoring is off the charts loud and constant. As in, she sounds like a 200 lb man with sleep apnea. If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you’ve heard it. I’ve shared a lot of her snores and you can see it all in her Pork highlight. For months I was getting horrible sleep, waking up every hour to kick her to get her to quit just to do it all over again an hour later. I was exhausted. Miserable.
I decided to try my sound machine app on my phone. It’s just a fan sound and I use it when I travel if rooms are too silent. Although it kind of worked, I hate having my phone in my bedroom. I needed a more permanent, non-phone fix. So thankfully, my friend Cathy of Poor Little It Girl gave me the Hatch+ sound machine. And I’m happy to report I am sleeping like, well, a baby.
Hatch+ Sound Machine Review
I first tried a different sound machine that was battery-operated and something went wrong with it. Eventually, it started turning off every hour. Which really just confirmed that the sound machine was in fact helping. Because as soon as it kicked off, I was awake thanks to Pork’s snoring. So I wanted to get one that plugged into the wall and would be more reliable.
The Hatch+ has been a life-changing addition to my bedroom. There are several sounds you can choose from whether it be rain, nature sounds or classic white noise (my favorite). You can also choose a few different options and volume settings and program it with the app. Then you can simply tap the top of the sound machine to choose and cycle through your favorites. It’s definitely designed for a baby in that it has a light and can be controlled by an app. But, it works, and I love the easy tap feature. Plus, it has a clock on it which I’ve never had in my room and is quite nice!
