I am someone who does not feel super comfortable when it comes to decorating. I need a really good jumpstart and can then usually fill it in. But it overwhelms me to know how to seamlessly weave in colors, and wood tones, and make it all feel cohesive. And don’t get me started on how much I HATE shopping for art.
Insert Havenly, a virtual design service that takes all the guesswork out of decorating. And instead, makes it a really fun experience to get to work with an interior decorator one on one for a fraction of the price.
My Honest Havenly Review
After doing a full Havenly virtual design package for my living and dining area in my NYC apartment, it is safe to say I am blown away. This is in no way sponsored, I just truly loved the service so much and had such a blast doing it that I wanted to share my honest Havenly review.
How Havenly Works
Havenly is an interior design service that offers both virtual and in person design services. Whether you need to decorate from scratch in your home office or living room, or need to just pull a room together that already has the essentials, Havenly can help!
First, you’ll answer a few questions and take a style quiz. This helps to figure out your personal interior design style. Don’t overthink it! This is just a way to connect you with the right designer so that you’re working with someone with similar taste.
They also ask you about your timeline, budget and so on. You’ll get into the nitty gritty details later on, but this is just a step one to get to your designer so you can begin the designing process.
Havenly Design Packages
Once you select your designer, you’ll then be prompted to select what type of design service you need. If you just need some finishing touches and have a few pieces of furniture already, choose the Online Mini. If you’re starting from scratch, select the Online Full. You can sign up below and get $50 off the online full package. No code is necessary, simply use my referral link and it is automatically added.
You can also select an in-person design services. I would maybe do this if I wanted to have custom pieces done, reupholstering furniture and so on. But I truly think the Online Mini and Online Full are perfect for anyone!
Step 2 Submit Your Design Needs – Room Profile
Now that you’ve selected a designer who matches your vibe, and scheduled a time to chat, it’s time to dive into the fun part. You’ll fill out a comprehensive questionnaire that includes uploading your favorite photos of inspiration (be sure to add comments to each one so they know what you like and what you don’t like!), add photos of you home along with a floor plan and measurements.
Plus, you’ll select what you need in terms of a shopping list (decor only or maybe you need all the furniture, let them know!). Then you let Havenly design services know what type of colors you like, and art styles and so on.
The more detail you offer here the better. And I would suggest making a Pinterest board for the room and sharing this as well with your designer.
Step 3 – Your Design Ideas
This part honestly alone was worth the purchase. This phase in the Havenly design process is done virtually with your designer. They present to you three design concepts based on what you submitted.
Not only do they present design concepts (which is basically a general idea, vibe and direction to go in), they also provide dozens of product in EACH design concept for you to rate. Give products a thumbs up or thumbs down so your designer can get a feel for what you like.
Honestly, we could’ve stopped here and I would’ve still given a glowing Havenly review. This alone helped me really see what could work in my space. Havenly reviews your feedback on these and then starts to get to work to create the initial design concept in the next step.
I found this phase to be extremely helpful, and honestly, if we had stopped after this, I would’ve been happy and had a direction to go in. My ideas in my head felt like they had finally been more organized and I could start to see my space come together just in this phase alone.
After chatting with your Havenly designer and sharing your feedback, they then get to work on fine tuning this and coming up with a final idea concept to approve. Honing all of this down to the perfect concept to then get started with the next phase.
Step 4 – Concepts
The final concept is a reflection of everything you talked about in step 3. A floor plan is also provided so you can see the layout. I desperately needed help with a long empty wall and seeing this all come together was really helpful. I never would’ve known what to do for my space without their help.
Once you approve the concept, and maybe ask to swap out a rug or art, or maybe you found a cool chair online that inspired you, they fine tune this concept until it’s just right. I found this phase to be the fastest because I was pretty clear on what I liked and didn’t like. My Havenly designer nailed the concept for me!
Step 5 – 3D Virtual Design
This was by far the coolest part of the whole Havenly virtual design experience. Getting to see your space in 3D with all of the selections is so insanely cool. It also makes things make sense. Plus, your designer may notice something not look just right and make new suggestions.
I had liked several floor lamps, but my designer said she found that one made more of an impact in the 3D rendering and noted that for me. That helps me make more confident decisions. I also appreciated that this recommendation ended up being a cheaper option too! I felt like she kept my budget in mind a lot which is something I really appreciated.

Is Havenly Worth It?
As someone who is not super confident in decorating a space, even though I know I love certain inspiration photos, colors and furniture styles, it’s pulling it all together that I find to be very challenging. I found the Havenly service to be worth the very affordable price tag. For under $150 you can do a full or mini design package.
I really appreciated that my designer kept my budget in mind. And also provided many designer alternatives so I can make some of my own choices as well. Whether you need some finishing touches in a room, or a full makeover or reconfiguring of your space, this is such a great way to get a professional design service at a fraction of the price.
Frequently Asked Questions About Havenly
The Online Mini $129
This is great if you already have a decent amount of furniture and just need to decorate.
The Online Full $199
This pckage is perfect if you need a full makeover. Maybe you just have a couch or table, but really need everything else, or you’re starting completely from scratch, do the online full!
Use this package if you have the budget to spend and are really looking for an in-person design experience.
When debating the Havenly mini vs full package, I would say choose the full if you are starting from scratch. I did the mini whic covered my open concept living, dining and entryway space. I had quite a bit of furniture in it already so I went with the mini. I’m going to be doing this for my office that will be starting from scratch and went with the Havenly online full.
How Long Does It Take To Design A Space At Havenly
The process of designing with my designer at Havenly took about 3 weeks. This was also over the holidays and I have a feeling this could’ve been shorter.
However, your initial design call may take up to 4-6 weeks to schedule. So if you’re thinking about doing this soon, I would sign up now so that you can schedule a call as soon as possible. I found many of the designers had at least a 4 week wait to kick off your project.
But once the project starts, you’re probably only looking at 2-4 weeks depending on how many revisions you request.
Do They Do Revisions To Your Designs?
They sure do! You can do as many revisions as needed. I think it’s key to be as detailed as possible so that you can keep the revisions to a minimum and keep the project moving forward. Since Havenly reviews all of your feedback and wants to make sure you have the perfect space, they will do as many revisions as possible.
Do You Have To Shop Directly From Havenly?
This was one of the top questions I got about Havenly. You do not have to shop directly from Havenly. There are no shopping minimums to meet, nothing. However, this is how the designers earn additional revenue through the commissions of the sales.
If you can, I would suggest shopping through them. They will typically price match and also add any retailer coupons. They want your business and will do their best. Plus, you can always ask to see if something is in their catalog. I found several things on Wayfair that were cheaper and they were able to add it to their catalog for me to shop allowing me to give my designer commission.
Personally, I did a mix of buying directly from Havenly who price-matched a few things and honored a coupon code I had, and then found a few similar items at Amazon for a bit cheaper. And I’m slowly chipping away at my shopping list and doing my buying in batches.
Virtual Design vs In Person
I think a virtual design is all you need unless you are investing in custom pieces. Havenly can help with the design of custom pieces and deciding on fabrics for upholstering and so on. But I would say that the virtual design service is all you probably need.
Modsy Review vs Havenly Review
I used Modsy many years ago and really loved the service. When I moved, I was hoping to use it again but the company is no longer in business. Even so, I preferred the Havenly experience over Modsy anyway and felt like Havenly had more fun products to add to my home design. My honest Havenly review is that it is totally worth it to get your home designed by a professional at a fraction of the price.
Havenly Before & After Living Room And Dining Room
My living room before and after with Havenly. Such a difference a smaller updated rug makes. And adding a chair and plant to the corner.
My Havenly dining room before and after is such a transformation. I have not thought to put a rug under my table but it breaks up the space. And making the living room rug smaller allows for it to have it’s own space. The walls were bare and this large piece of art makes a huge impact.
