With a new season upon us, I always like to do a big deep clean in my home. And I feel like the kitchen and bathroom always get focused on when it comes to a good clean. But it’s the bedroom I’m tackling today. Here’s how to deep clean your bedroom. And be sure to purge and declutter that closet while you’re at it too.
How To Deep Clean Your Bedroom
What You’ll Need
- Dusters
- Microfiber cloths
- Glass cleaner
- All-purpose cleaning spray
- Vacuum
- Mop
- Trash bag
Pick Up Any Trash & Empty Trash
First go through the room and pick up any trash, and empty the trash. There’s something about a full trash can that makes a room feel instantly dirty to me.
Declutter Your Bedroom
Next up, declutter your bedroom. It’s easy for the bedroom to become a catchall of clothing and accessories. Go through all your surfaces and maybe even focus on the drawers and closets to declutter things you don’t need.
Clean Windows And Mirrors
Next up, it’s time to start really cleaning. Clean all the windows and mirrors with a glass-safe cleaner like Windex. You’d be surprised how dirty those windows can get over just a few months.
Pull Furniture Out To Clean Baseboards, Floor And Wall
You’d be surprised how dusty your walls and baseboards can get behind all your furniture. It’s so important to pull these out every once and a while and give them a good wipe down with a damp cloth. Vacuum the floor behind everything as well. Wipe down the wall, the base boards, and the furniture itself as dust can easily accumulate on the furniture too.
Remove Cobwebs & Dust Surfaces
Now that we’ve dusted behind all of the things, it’s time to dust all the surfaces as well. The nighstands, the lamps and sconces, dressers and so on. Don’t overlook any cobwebs in the corners of the ceiling too! I like using a microfiber cloth for this to ensure you aren’t just moving dust around, but capturing it!

Wipe Down And Sanitize Surfaces & Decor
Next up is to wipe down and sanitize the surfaces and any decor. Don’t forget the windowsills too and even your bed frame.
Wash All Bedding & Textiles
A big tip here is to pull all the bedding and textiles off at the start of your cleaning, and get it into the wash. This way, by the time you’re finished cleaning the bedroom, your bedding will likely be ready to put back on. There’s nothing better than that first sleep in fresh bedding. Bonus points for taking those pillows to the dry cleaners, and maybe even finally washing your curtains too.
Vacuum And Mop Floors
The last step when you clean is always to vacuum, then mop. Be sure to vacuum under the bed as best as you can as dust can easily bulid up here as well. Then mop your floors if you don’t have carpets, for the last touch.
A deep clean in the bedroom is a must do once a season. It’s nice to time it after you’ve done a bit of a closet declutter and shifted your seasonal clothing around. This way, you can enjoy your new season pieces in a freshly cleaned space, making getting dressed and ready for the day feel so much more elevated.
