I bought this suit at the beginning of the fall season and have been finding myself grabbing the pieces to it often. I’m all about the jeans, don’t get me wrong. But sometimes it’s nice to switch things up and swap my beloved denim for some fun trousers. You may remember these from last week’s post on what to wear to a business meeting. They’re such a great update to regular work pants.
Dressing down your favorite work pants is something everyone should feel confident doing. It allows you to extend your closet so you don’t have to go crazy
I wanted to share a few tips on how to easily swap out a few parts of your outfit to dress down your favorite work pants.
How To Dress Down A Suit
Swap The Shoes
First and foremost, it’s smart to swap out those heels for something more comfortable. It instantly dresses your look down, but honestly, isn’t 100% the trick. You still have to switch something else out to make it feel complete. If you just switched the shoes, you’d be risking looking like you’re running to work in NYC and you’ll be putting your heels on when you get to your cubicle. I like a cool sneaker or chuck, but you can also swap your heels out for a fun loafer.
Change Your Button Down For Something Comfy
I HATED wearing button down shirts to work. Shocker, I live in cotton tees all the time. So the easiest way to dress down those work pants is to swap out the button down for a comfy tee. Extra style points when you wear a fun graphic tee. But a classic white one works great too! I personally love these. PS you’d be good to go in a full suit with a cool rocker tee and chucks. But head to the next tip for the complete look!
Add A Cool Girl Layer
Insert your version of a cool girl layer. For me, it’s a clear choice. Leather jacket. But if you’re not a leather jacket kind of person you can totally swap this out for whatever you prefer. A denim jacket would work or a long boyfriend cardigan. Whatever your style is, this layer will help to complete your look and truly transform those work pants to a casual laid back outfit.
