Alright friends, are we all in on the trouser trend yet? If not, I hope this look gets you on board. It’s fun, casual and comfortable. We’re taking our wide leg trousers and dressing them down. Because while I love buying new things for my closet, I like to make sure I’m buying items I can get multiple uses out of. Back in the day I never would’ve thought trousers could be dressed down. They were solely for the office and that’s it. But the trends are changing and right now we’re taking trousers to all new fashion levels.
How To Dress Down Trousers
Let’s take our favorite trousers and dress them down a bit. Think about the fabrics and fits that feel casual to help dress down the more 9-5 feel a trouser can give off. Cotton tops, ribbed tanks, sneakers and so on are all things that feel very casual and will help to create balance. And with any outfits, add a few things that make them feel a bit more interesting so it doesn’t feel like you just threw on a tee with your workpants. Think adding casual belts, jewelry and so on to pull the whole thing together.
Casual Tops To Wear With Trousers
Since trousers have a bit of volume to them if you’re going wide leg style, you’ll want to think about balance. This can mean a shirt that’s tucked in like I did here with a graphic tee. Or going for something more fitted and body hugging. Whether it’s a fitted tank, tee or bodysuit, that would be perfect. Another option that I am loving is a crop top. Yes, a crop top! If they’re a high rise trouser a little crop top that shows a sliver of skin makes the trousers feel like they are most definitely not work pants!

Casual Shoes To Wear With Trousers
For the shoes, I think a sneaker is the perfect casual shoe option. It instantly dresses everything down and makes it feel laid back and cool. Pair with a chunkier shoe like a platform sneaker or more of a dad sneaker. But a sleek slim sneaker like a leather Veja works great as well. Again, balance! You can also do a low kitten heel for something semi-casual. Another way I plan to style these sage green trousers is with a black knitted crop top and a little black kitten heel sandal. It’s still kind of casual and cool without it feeling dressy for the office. Layer with an oversized denim jacket for an even more laid back casual vibe.
