Right now many of us are coming up on 30 or 40 days of staying home. While some states have strict restrictions like wearing a mask no matter where you are in public, and some, like Georgia, are just about fully back to normal (insert eye roll). So today’s post is to be adjusted according to what your state is doing. Or if you’re lucky to have a backyard, a new idea for spending your lunchtime.
As someone who’s been self-isolating solo, FaceTime with friends, long walks with Pork, and waving to my neighbors from a safe distance has been my only social interactions these days. I’m starting to crave more time with my friends. With that, doing a socially distant picnic is a great way to get in a little girl talk while also staying safe.
How To Have A Socially Distant Picnic
Bring Out The “Special Occassion” Wine
Bring out your fancy wine. I mean why are we holding onto the expensive wine and fancy candles and not enjoying them, right? Now’s the time to indulge a little in those things that you’ve been holding on to for “a special occasion”. Well now’s the time! I had these Babylonstoren wines in my fridge that I was saving since they’re a bit nicer than my usual under $10 wine. So time to bring them to the picnic!
Support Local Restaurants
Instead of cooking for your picnic (you could totally whip up this easy spread) why not support a local restaurant and order take out. If you’re meeting up with friends for a picnic, you can each bring something from your favorite restaurant. No arguing over where to order from! It’s a win win. In Atlanta, we have tons of wonderful restaurants doing take out and even offering drinks to-go too. One of my favorite spots, Whiskey Bird, is serving up their frosé and orange dreamsicles for take out. They’re to die for.
Bring A Big Blanket
If each person brings their own big blanket, you’ll be able to mark your spot so you keep your safe distance. But having a great picnic blanket to lay out on and set your things on is the essential part of a picnic if you ask me. You can also be super fancy and get yourself a picnic basket.
Atlanta Restaurants Doing Take Away
There are tons of amazing restaurants doing take away and or delivery around town. I wanted to share a few of my favorite local spots to support during this time. Skip the chain restaurants if you can, it’s these small businesses that are hurting the most that could use your support. If you’re also able to order directly through the restaurant, that is ideal. The big delivery companies take a big cut. This extra step can mean huge savings for these small restaurants.
