To me, every closet has a few good essential coats you need. A great trench, a wool topcoat, you get the idea. But for those really cold days, a puffy coat, especially if it’s a good quality down, will keep you toasty warm. My long J.Crew puffy coat has been a closet staple and has kept me warm for years. It’s the only jacket I ever bring with me to winter getaways like to New York City in the bitter cold, or the mountains. Okay, this Everlane down puffy coat is also a good one! But this gold, shorter fit, absolutely fun H&M puffy coat, is a nice update to a classic. It’s fun, different, and works great for cold days.
How To Style A Puffer Jacket
I honestly never thought I needed or would even love a giant puffy gold puffer coat. But here I am, and I’m kind of obsessed. If you saw this post about my favorite H&M winter finds, you know that this brand has been on my radar a lot lately. Here’s just yet again another great find.
This outfit is giving me 80’s rapper feels big time. Reeboks were such a staple ’80s sneaker and I’m so glad they’ve made a serious comeback. They’re one of my favorite sneakers to throw on next to these Veja’s. Very Dad Shoe, right? Paired with a giant gold puffer, it’s simply 80’s perfection, but updated.

Create Balance
When styling a really big puffy coat, you want to balance the volume out. Instead of wearing big wide leg jeans with this large coat, I went with skinnies. Would also be great with a faux leather legging too. Add either a sneaker or chunky boot to balance the bottom part out so you don’t look entirely top heavy. This look to me would appear totally off balance if I paired it with a low profile sneaker. Go a little chunkier if you ask me.
Create Shape If You Can
While this isn’t really easy all of the time, but if you are feeling lost in a big puffy coat, try to find one that is belted. Creating shape, even if the item is otherwise super voluminous, will give the illusion of a shape. This can be essential to not looking super sloppy, and instead polished!
