There has been a growing love for this third piece in the fashion world. It’s one of those pieces that will always be a classic, but has more recently become trendy. There’s a difference when something goes from classic to trendy and it usually means, lots of options to choose from at various prices.
People who may not normally have styled this piece or even considered shopping for it, are now all of a sudden eager to find one to fit into their personal style. And that can always feel overwhelming when trying to incorporate a new silhouette and fit into your closet. And so today, let’s talk about how to style lady jackets.

What Is A Lady Jacket?
First, let’s talk about what exactly is a lady jacket. A lady jacket is often a collarless, slightly short or cropped jacket. It’s almost a mix of if a cardigan meets a cropped jacket. A classic we’ve seen in Chanel suiting for years, but more recently has become a trendy jacket to style for everyday. They often come in fabrics like boucle and tweed giving them a more polished, feminine and sophisticated look.
However, now that lady jackets are trending, we’re seeing this as more of a cut and fit, but in varying fabrics and textures. From leather to wool, denim and more.

How To Style Lady Jackets
The Perfect Topper For The Office
A lady jacket is a great option for the office. It’s polished and feminine, and is a great topper for the office. Pair with trousers or full skirts for a complete look. It would also be a great third piece to wear with a Bermuda-style trouser short.

Add Some Edge
Since lady jackets can feel really sweet, preppy and more feminine, I like to contrast this with something edgier. Whether it’s a cool pair or denim, leather pieces or an interesting shoe. This helps to balance out the sweeter piece to create contrast and balance.
Also, if you want your lady jacket to feel more edgy, and not so sweet, try a leather version. This jacket style can easily feel more edgy and cool by finding ones in different fabrics and prints to fit your personal style.

Replace Your Denim Jacket
If your denim jacket is a go-to jacket over dresses and other outfits, you may want to try swapping it with a lady jacket. It feels more grown up, polished and elevated. Denim jackets are a great light jacket for spring, summer and into fall. But they make any outfit feel more casual. Which isn’t always a bad thing.
However, if you’re trying to elevate your outfit, a lady jacket would be a great swap to make. You can even try a collarless cropped denim jacket that keeps the same casual fabric but in a more polished and elevated silhouette.

Pair With Wider Pants
One of my favorite styling tips for a cropped style jacket like a lady jacket, is to go wider on the bottom. This works with dresses that are more voluminous on the bottom and fitted on the top. To also denim or trousers that are not super slim. Anything from a straight leg to a wide leg works.

When To Wear A Lady Jacket
Depending on the season, you can get away with a lady jacket so long as you keep fabric in mind. In the summer months, try a linen or denim jacket. In the fall and winter, opt for wool, tweeds and leather. For spring, you can try a more sweater material style lady jacket that’s light in addition to a denim or leather version depending on the temperatures.
A lady jacket is also a great alternative to your favorite blazer, cropped trench coat, or denim jackets. Anytime you feel like your outfit needs a bit more polish or something more feminine to maybe balance out a more masculine piece, a lady jacket is the perfect piece to complete your look.
