Last year I finally embraced the midi skirt. But I’ll be honest, I opted for the more little house on the prairie style. Exhibit A right here that I styled a few ways. And also Exhibit B which is a great skirt that is now available in new colors!
But this spring I found myself finding REALLY great things at H&M and this pretty midi skirt was one of them. I loved the more fitted and flattering silhouette. It’s much sexier than the prairie-style ones I gave a go with last summer.
So how do you wear these midi skirts? My favorite way is honestly with a simple tee. Paired with either a classic sandal or sneaker, it’s really the ideal cool-girl way to wear them. But you can 100% dress them up. You may remember this fun one I styled a couple of years ago. Still, with a fun tee but swapped out sneakers for a nude heel. You can also swap out the tee for a silky camisole, button-down blouse or even a chambray shirt. Treat them like you would fancier or printed shorts. Let the skirt do most of the talking especially if it’s a fun print.
How To Style Midi Skirts For Spring + Summer
You can easily recreate this look at home with any midi skirt you like. A simple tee and sneakers are a favorite combo. But another essential to pair with midi skirts are simple sandals. These are just a few essentials I recommend having on hand to create these looks.

Simple Or Graphic Tees
I personally love to pair these midi skirts with my go-to white tees or a graphic one. And for a few reasons. One is that these skirts are sometimes statement pieces so keeping the rest of your look simple is key. But also, some of these skirts are more flowy or voluminous with pleats and movement.
When you have something flowier on the bottom, you want the top part to balance it out with something more fitted. A simple tee does just that. If you want to go a little dressier, swap it out for a silky camisole or button-down. And you can totally do a chambray shirt as well.
TIP: If you’re looking for something that’s fitted, try a bodysuit. They’re great for creating a sleek silhouette that pairs perfectly with a high waisted skirt.
White Sneakers
The ultimate cool girl combo if you ask me. A classic white sneaker paired with something feminine like a midi skirt is an easy juxtaposition that always works. Just be sure you’re wearing a fashion-forward sneaker and one that’s CLEAN and white.
I always opt for either my Classic Rebooks or Converse. But Adidas, Vans or Keds will work too! Just keep the running shoe at bay so it doesn’t look like you’re heading home from the gym.

Everyday Sandals
You can coordinate your sandal to the skirt to bring out one of the colors in the print. Or to complement the color of the skirt itself. Take my red midi that has a touch of navy in it. I definitely plan on dressing this skirt up with my navy high heel sandals.
They’ll be a great way to bring out the print and dress it up all with the swap of a shoe. I also love wearing a classic gladiator sandal or my favorite STEVEN Greece sandals (or you can go fancy and buy the real deal Hermes ones). You can also wear a great espadrille as they’re a summertime essential and comfortable.
Floral Midi Skirts
Obviously to get this look you need to grab yourself a great midi skirt! So many options to choose from. Personally, I love a more fitted or a-line style that has a nice high slit to it. It’s got more movement to it and is a bit sexier.
Reformation is a great place to splurge for one of these. But Madewell, Old Navy and H&M all have great options too. I feel like H&M definitely has the most options and love their prints and silhouettes the most!
Light Spring Layer
To complete this look, a light spring layer is always a good idea. For early spring, a suede moto jacket or leather jacket is great with sneakers too. And for warmer spring days, I grab a lighter denim or utility jacket. You could also add a cropped cardigan for this look too to complete it. A cardigan is definitely a more feminine take on the look and adds great texture!
