You either love or hate a mule-style shoe. I’m someone who really loves them and thinks they’re a fun style to try. A mule is simply a backless shoe. And technically one that is closed-toe. An open toed mule is considered a slide. I think there may be some debate on that, but let’s go with it. I love to wear mules with a cropped pair of pants to show off the shoe. And I also find this makes it easier to wear so the hem of your pants doesn’t fall under your foot in your shoe. Which is very annoying. I have found myself gravitating towards mules and clogs for fall and winter. So here are a few of my favorite ways to style mules.
How To Style Mules
Pointed Toe Mules
These feel very feminine and classic to me. I clearly am loving this trend as I just bought a pair of these from Amazon. Yes, they’re a dupe to the Manolo Blahnik, and maybe just one day, I’ll get the real deal. Pointed toe heeled mules are the perfect pair of heels to dress up any outfit. You can totally take a pair of jeans and a simple tee and dress it up with these. Or wear them with your favorite dress pants to the office, or paired with a skirt. I love to pair this style with a cropped jean, even just at the ankle, to show off the shoe a bit.
There are also flat pointed toe mules you can try too like the popular Jenni Kayne ones. These are a bit more casual without the heel and you can find a few similar ones at Madewell too. Below are some of my favorite pointed toe mules to try.
Loafer Mule
A loafer style mule is very popular at the moment. They come in varying styles within the loafer style from chunkier lug sole trends, to more classic and preppy leather loafers. The Gucci loafer mule is one that comes to mind that feels very popular and is quite versatile. Plenty of dupes of this style obviously if you don’t want to spend $800 on them. But these classic flat mules can be styled with many styles of jeans from skinny jeans to wider leg, to dress pants, and even dresses. They lean more preppy and classic, but depending on the style you choose, like a lug sole, you can make these work for many personal styles.
Clogs
While yes, clogs are also a mule, I’m leaving these out of today’s post. I feel like these are a category all on their own. They’re a boho more 70s style mule and one that can also be worn with all hte same things here. From cropped denim, dresses and more. You can see a few ways I’ve styled clogs here and here. And yes, you can totally wear your Birkenstock clogs (or Boston clogs) in a lot of the same ways here too.
A Few Easy Mule Outfit Ideas
Heeled Mules With High Waisted White Denim For Fall
I love this outfit so much for fall. Pairing my high-waisted white denim jeans with a hunter-green sweater and mule is a really easy way to style white denim for fall. These are my Amazon mules that I’m really loving. And yes, you can wear white jeans in the winter, here’s how!
Mules With A Dress Or Skirt For The Office
Mules work great with skirts and dresses too. I think the main goal is to show them off! Love this sweater and skirt set from 9to5chic.com who paired this monochromatic white look with a bold mustard coat.
Loafer Mules With Denim And A Blazer
I feel like the loafer mule is a more preppy and classic shoe option here. Natalie Borton styles these Gucci loafer mules with super distressed denim. Which is a fun way to juxtapose the more classic vibe of the shoe. Add an oversized blazer and classic tee and you know I’m in for this outfit combo!
If you need to make this more business casual, just swap the distressed denim for a more dark, classic straight jean to go with the black mules, instead.
Business Casual Jeans With Mules And A Leather Blazer
This is a great way to wear your jeans for a business casual day at the office. I’d also wear this out with friends. Classic dark blue straight leg jeans, a mule, and a great blazer. This leather one is a fun update to a classic blazer.
Mules With A Dress For Spring
Mules also work for the spring as well. Once we hit summer, it’s mostly the slide life (open toed mule!). I love this bold statement midi dress paired with a kitten heel mule from Blair Edie.
Colorful Loafer Mules For Spring
Come spring, rock your favorite white denim and colorful sweaters or tops with your favorite mules. I love how Shelby of Glitter & Gingham styled these blush mules for a fresh spring look. It adds a pop of color to a spring color palette. She also styled these mules with a printed dress for spring here. Proving that you can wear mules with so many different things and in every season.
