There’s one trend I’m really excited about for spring, and it’s the track pant. It falls under the sporty trend, or the elevated athleisure category. Whatever it is, I’m into it. And for a few reasons. They’re comfortable, they allow you to really play a bit to dress them up or down. And they come in so many colors and prints.
From leopard track pants, to just styling looser pull on drawstring or elastic waist pants, these are really the best tips for styling this trend. Doesn’t matter if they’re Adidas track pants, or the J.Crew Stratus pant or just your favorite cotton pull on relaxed wider leg pants, these style tips will for sure make you feel stylish when you go to wear them.

How To Style Track Pants
First, let’s start with a great pair of track pants. These don’t have to actually be an athetlic brand track pant. These styling tips work for really any loose pull on drawstring style pant. I think the extra detail of a sporty stripe really helps to create that juxtaposition when styling these with feminine pieces which is a style tip we’ll get into. I prefer something that’s much wider and relaxed. Here are some favorite track pants and track shorts to shop.
Pair With Overly Feminine Tops
One of the easiest ways to balance out the sporty and athleisure vibe of track pants is to overcompensate with a super feminine top. Think ruffles and bows, anything flowy and flirty. Paired with a simple sandal, this is the perfect look to try. I personally don’t own a single girly top so I think I may be adding one or two to the mix because I think this is really the perfect way to balance this style out.

Add A Vest
My latest styling trick has been to just add a vest. A nice vest whether it’s denim or linen, is perfect for wearing over a wider leg and looser pant. It adds some structure and shape and falls nicely over the pants. You can go cropped or longer in the length, I feel like any variation would work.

Accessorize Your Track Pants
Even if you go simple with your track pants and just pair a white tee with them, you can easily elevate them with jewelry. Add great earrings, a few fun necklaces, a stylish purse and so on. This makes all the difference in just wearing track pants and a tee with a big boring tote bag and no jewelry. I’ve added fun and stylish bags here to really make these outfits feel trendy and more interesting.

Don’t Forget Third Pieces
Third pieces truly are the work horse in our closets sometimes. The jacket and toppers we add to looks to make them feel more complete and polished. I love to style my track pants with something more structured to balance out the looser silhouette on the bottom. And also you can do something more cropped since they’re usually wider leg.
A few ideas include adding a blazer to your wide-leg track pants, or a trench coat to add length. A cropped jacket is a great choice too like a bomber jacket, denim jacket or chore jacket. I’d basically follow a lot of the same styling rules I abide by with wide leg jeans as I would for wide leg track pants. And even if you’re just doing a tee and track pants, throw a sweater over your shoulders to add that interesting layer and texture.

Best Shoes To Pair With Track Pants
When choosing a shoe to pair with your track pants, you can go one or two ways. Go sporty in a sleek sneaker like an Adidas Gazelle or Samba. Or, go a little dressy when you’re dressing them up. Try a block heel sandal or a strappy heel. I think anything really chunky on the bottom can feel too heavy with this vibe so I’d keep things slimmer in silhouettes on the bottom. So instead of a chunky loafer, try a more classic slim one.

So if you’re wondering how do you make track pants look good, these are your best tips. Balance with more feminine pieces, add layers and interest and always finish your outfits with great accessories. It makes all the difference in taking your sporty track pants from feeling like you’re at the gym, to channeling your inner street style.
