If you haven’t already started taking your favorite summer pieces, and transitioning them into fall looks, what are you waiting for?! This is one of my favorite times of year to dress because you can still get away with bare legs and also start wearing some of my favorite fall items like booties and leather jackets. This white ruffle wrap dress was a favorite this summer. I wore it to several events, out to dinner, you name it. I’ve almost always worn it like this which I styled a few months back. But now that I can get away with booties and jackets, you bet I swapped it all out!
Many of you asked how to take your favorite white dresses into fall. It can be easy but also a bit of a challenge depending on what your white dress is. Here are three easy rules to follow for taking your favorite little white dresses from summer to fall.
Three Rules To Taking Your Little White Summer Dress Into Fall
Mind Your Fabrics!
Let’s start with the dress itself. There’s a short period of time that you can truly get away with an eyelet dress in the fall. I wouldn’t recommend wearing it in late October and November. But September and warm October days you can 100% get away with an eyelet or linen dress with the right fall accessories. But you can definitely take just about any white dress, like today’s for example, from summer to fall since it’s in a season neutral fabric.
Focus On Autumnal Hues
Embrace fall and all it’s gorgeous hues. This is how you can truly take white summer fabrics into fall the right way. Think about the shades of fall from great greens, to deep reds and shades of brown. These paired with white are a perfect fall combination. No one will even realize that white linen dress that you wore to the BBQ a few weekends ago is what you’re rocking in the fall. Pairing pastels with a white dress will only make you look like you’re holding onto summer for dear life. Make the switch and hold strong! And my favorite easy no-brainer trick? Just stick to black. Black and white is such a classic combo which is why I opted for my leather jacket and black flat booties for today’s white dress. But this dress would also be perfect with a cozy hunter green boyfriend cardigan and chestnut booties.
PS You can 100% wear pastel in the fall. Remember this amazing coat? But when rocking pastel in the fall and winter you want to make sure you’re finding pieces in heavier fabrics like knits, wool and tweed.
Accessorize Properly
More layers don’t ALWAYS scream fall. Refrain from adding more summer accessories to your summer dress. The additional layers don’t always translate to fall. Let the dress be the only summer item you wear and swap out your accessories and a third piece (like a jacket or scarf) to truly fall pieces. Think suede booties, utility jacket, leather and cozy cardigans. I wouldn’t add another linen jacket over your linen dress just because it’s keeping you warm. Think fall! A few other ideas would be a silk scarf, bandana or even a suede belt for added texture.
