A slip dress is one of those closet staples I think everyone should have in their closet. You can truly dress them up or down. Whether you choose a midi or mini, black or a fun color, you will get some serious use out of this piece. I packed this midi slip dress with me to Paris for my month-long stay and it was the only nice dress I brought. I was able to wear it out to dinner, or even out exploring with sneakers. For those colder months, you can still break out this closet staple. Just follow a few of these styling tips to get it right and stay warm.
How To Wear A Slip Dress For Winter
Layer A Turtleneck Underneath
The easiest thing to do is layer a body-hugging turtleneck underneath your dress as I did with this dress. I love this because it doesn’t add any bulk to your outfit. Aim for a fitted turtleneck that hugs your body so it doesn’t bunch underneath the dress. A bodysuit version is great too
Wear A Sweater Over The Dress
I find this one to be a little harder to accomplish personally. But it’s definitely doable! You can add a cropped sweater over the dress to make it look like a skirt instead. You could even add a belt and tuck the sweater underneath the belt so it stays in place. This is especially a good trick if the sweater is a little longer and you want to make it look as though it’s tucked in.
Add A Winter Appropriate Boot
You can pair so many different options with a slip dress for winter. I love this look with a knee high boot. It’s super sexy! And keeps you even warmer. Add tights or leggings underneath to really be cozy. But I also like a cute ankle bootie. These western inspired ones are really fun and different. Still shows off a little bit of leg so not ideal if it’s insanely cold. But if you’re just going from car to restaurant, who really cares, right? You could also do a suede bootie too.
More Ways To Style A Slip Dress
I truly think this is such a great closet staple. And I’ve styled a mini slip dress so many ways for other seasons and occasions. I styled this pretty blush-colored midi slip dress for summer two ways. Would also be cute in the winter with a brown boot and a cream sweater. So don’t be afraid to try a fun color and think outside of classic black. This brown silk slip dress with lace details is so sexy and pretty. I have styled it with platform heels for a night out, or Converse and a denim jacket for something more casual. You can also check out the post below on more ways to style a slip dress.
