One of the fall trends I had been most excited about to try are the cuffed jeans trend. And no, these are not your Millennial skinny jeans rolled up at the bottom. They’re basically wide leg cuffed jeans, a wide-leg jean with a very intentional bold wide cuff. And I’m obsessed with this new trend.
There are also so many variations of a wide leg cuffed jean and ways to style them to make them your own. And I can attest that the pair I recently picked up from Madewell have quickly moved to the forefront of my most loved denim in my denim drawer(s).
Here’s how to wear the wide leg cuffed jeans trend so you can dive into this trend with confidence while making the most out of your closet. Depending on your height or shoe preference, you can opt for a longer inseam or a shorter one to accommodate flats and sneakers. Since these are quickly becoming a closet staple, I’m also on the hunt for a longer inseam in a wide leg cuffed jean so I can pair them with all my heels and ankle booties. But to start, here’s my take on them with an easy comfortable flat or sneaker.

How To Wear Cuffed Jeans
When I think of the top denim trends at the moment, wide leg cuffed jeans are top of mind. Along with looser, wider-leg jeans, your typical straight leg jeans, and no I’m going to pass on the skinnies, still. A cuffed jean can sometimes make you look visually shorter though so I get the apprehension of trying this trend. But as someone who is only 5’5″ with short legs, I promise it’s not that bad. And I’ll show you a few ways to ensure that doesn’t happen!

What Are Cuffed Jeans?
The wide leg cuffed jean trend usually comes as is. That means, you’ll buy the jeans already cuffed and there is likely a stitch there to keep them that way. However, you can totally create this trend yourself with your favorite longer wider leg denim. This works best on 100% cotton denim that is a bit more stiff. But all you do is simply cuff the jeans, and go on with your life. You may need to do a quick press of your iron on them (yes, a hair straightener at a low temp can work) or break out the actual iron.
You can also use the micro-stitch gun to ensure it stays up. I think doing a quick press to create a nice crease helps to make this look intentional and more polished, versus avoiding having your jeans dragging and looking like you need to go to the tailor.
Are Cuffed Jeans In Style
Cuffed jeans are a hot fall trend right now, but we are only, I repeat, only wearing them as wide leg options. Skip the skinny jeans! You can definitely do a straight leg with a large cuff. But I think the best way to rock this current denim trend is to go wide.
I think this makes them really easy to style with booties, flats, sneakers or your favorite heels. I pretty much am following a lot of the style tips I would if wearing a bell bottom jean. That usually consists of balancing out the wider leg with more fitted pieces up top. Tucking in your shirt, more fitted tops, adding a third piece that’s structured, and maybe even slightly cropped.
How To Style Cuffed Jeans
Here are 10 ways to style cuffed jeans if you’re ready to dive into this fun denim trend. Just think of them as your new favorite wide leg jeans that have a little bit more interest to them.
Quick answer if you’re short on time: sneakers, ballet flats, booties, heels, and loafers all work beautifully with cuffed jeans, it really just depends on how casual or polished you’re going for. Plus, length can play a role, but it’s pretty forgiving. And if you’re Keep scrolling and I’ll show you exactly how I styled each one.

1. How To Wear Cuffed Jeans With Sneakers
This is an outfit I will be wearing on repeat. Cuff your jeans and pair them with a cool sneaker (I’m a big fan of Adidas Gazelles) and a body fitting tee and your favorite blazer. It’s pulled together, stylish and oh so comfortable. These are the Madewell jeans I recently invested in and I am simply in love with them. I’ve always been a big Madewell denim fan. You can read my big Madewell jeans review if you’ve never shopped the brand.

2. How To Wear Cuffed Jeans With A Trench Coat
A Parisian inspired outfit in simple stripes and a trench coat is one of my favorite ways to style my wide leg cuffed jeans. This combination is perfect for fall and early spring days. Again, you can go long with the hemline, or slightly cropped, either works.
While I think some people may think the cuff makes you feel shorter, I think so long as it’s a longer inseam it really isn’t an issue. Plus, a longer layer over top like this long trench always helps to elongate your body.

3. How To Wear Cuffed Jeans With A Ballet Flat or Mary Jane
Try a Mary Jane or ballet flat with your cuffed jeans and a structured blazer. A little cardigan, lady jacket or sweater would be perfect here too. This can easily feel more polished and feminine with the right pieces.
Whether you want to go long like I did on the left, or a bit cropped like Rachel of Hello, Her did on the right, either works. You can wear all your favorite beautiful flats or even low kitten heels with these.

4. How To Wear Cuffed Jeans With Booties
You have two options here when it comes to how to wear your wide leg cuffed jeans with booties. First, go long and cover the boot completely. When thinking about how to style bell bottom jeans, this is one thing I think is similar to this trend.
However, if you’re more of a cropped jean person, which I am too, you can do the exact same thing we do with cropped jeans and your ankle booties. Let them show a little! And be sure to wear a bootie that is more snug against your leg. Check out how to style boots with straight leg jeans here for more examples that would also work with these cuffed jeans.

5. How To Wear Cuffed Jeans With Heels or Heeled Sandals
Pairing your wide leg cuffed jeans with a heel or heeled sandal is such an easy way to dress up this denim trend. I like the idea of them being ever so slightly cropped with the heel so that you show it off. You can definitely go full length with this denim style and just let the toe peep out. But a slight cropped in any denim style really allows the shoe to shine.

6. How To Wear Wide Leg Cuffed Jeans With Loafers
For fall and winter, a loafer is the perfect option to pair with your cuffed jeans. You can once again go full length, similar to the Mary Janes and ballet flats. Or try a slightly cuffed straight cuffed jean to show off the shoe with a fun sock. Such a great pairing, especially for cooler months to add another layer.
There are so many brands who are coming out with their own versions of the cuffed jean trend. My personal favorite are Madewell which I’m wearing in today’s post. My big Madewell jeans review can help you find your right size. Another brand favorite of mine are my Pistola jeans, you can check out the Pistola jeans review here. They have this dark wash cropped pair that I think is really great for nicer outfits with heels.
No matter what denim brand you love right now, I can almost guarantee you they have a cuffed denim style to try. If not, below are some favorites I’ve hand-selected that I think would be perfect to add to your closet.
