One of the latest additions to my closet has been my Dr Marten Leona boots. There are so many different styles to choose from, but the chunky sole on these with a bit of a heel, made me fall in love. I’ve been pairing them with my SPANX faux leather leggings a lot which you can see here.
But one of the main looks I could not wait to create with my new Dr. Marten boots was pairing them with a cute dress. It’s such a great juxtaposition of a feminine dress paired with chunky more edgy combat style boot like Dr. Martens.
How To Wear Dresses With Dr Martens
Can You Wear Dresses With Dr Martens?
Pairing Dr Martens with dresses is always a great idea if you ask me. I feel like there are definitely certain types of dresses that pair well and some that are just a hard no, but not many! You’ve got lots of options! For me, since I have short legs, I actually prefer a mini dress paired with Doc Martens.
Showing off some leg (using my Vita Liberata blurring lotion is key too) helps to elongate my legs and make me feel less stumpy. But midi dresses and even maxis can work well too with the right style of dresses. Here’s how to wear dresses with Dr Martens for fall and winter.

These Dr Marten boots really do go with so much. And can be worn from late summer as a transition shoe into fall, all the way until we get into spring. The outfit ideas are truly endless. And trust me, you can rock them.
There are several different styles of Dr Martens to choose from and I’m sure you can find ones that work for your personal style. From patent leather Dr Martens to white leather ones and more. So let’s start with some Dr Martens with a few popular styles below.
Paired With Flowy Mini Dresses
Clearly, I love to wear my docs this way! I really like to pair them with mini dresses and this flowy one from Mango that I’m wearing is a great mix of feminine details to balance the more punk rock vibe of these shoes.
It’s one of my favorite pairings when creating looks with my Dr Marten boots. A good mix of feminine and sweet, paired with the more edgy combat style of the boots. It’s my never-fail combination.
When it comes to styling a flowy mini dress, I love to add a belt to cinch the waist, it’s simply more flattering. It also makes your outfit a little more interesting. It’s one of my go-to tips when your outfit is feeling a little lackluster.
Easily add sheer black tights to this look for a more winter-friendly outfit for when the temps get a little cooler. And of course, don’t forget a great jacket.
For fall weather and something that isn’t too heavy, a leather jacket is a perfect piece to add, or a great long trench coat works well too.
For winter, I’d go with a long wool trench as a great addition to this look. That’s how I’d take this mini dress and Dr Marten outfit into winter with ease.
Midi Dress With Dr Martens
Another great option to wear your docs, especially if you’re a bit taller, is pairing these combat boots with midi dresses. Go for flowy midi dresses like the minis and follow my same rule of cinching at the waist.
But another cute way to style your Dr Martens outfit in a midi dress is to try one that’s a bit more fitted. Try either a ribbed knit sweater dress for winter, or a simple cotton long sleeve midi for fall. You can also pair these with tights to make them great winter outfits that will also keep you warm.
Since a midi dress can sometimes shorten your legs visually, it is best to pair these with the heeled Dr Martens. The Leona lace up boots I have with the platform and heel help to add some height which makes them such a versatile pair to have!
Which Dr Marten Boots Should You Wear With Dresses?
You can truly wear whatever Dr Marten boots you want with your dresses. I don’t think there are any major rules here. I love the Chelsea boot styles, the Leona’s and more. They all work with varying lengths and styles of dresses.
