One of the best trends that happens every fall is a good blazer. And usually, it’s a great plaid one! Plaid is a favorite print for the season and one that’s super classic. Having it in a blazer makes it something you can throw over so many things in your closet to create many looks. From dresses to jeans to even shorts. Yes, shorts! I’m going to show you how to wear this ideal transition piece this fall in several easy to recreate ways.
How To Wear Plaid Blazers
Find A Neutral Print
There are lots of great colors to choose from, but if you want to maximize your options, I recommend going a bit more neutral. If plaid and color are your thing, then go for all the color! I personally love a good beige or brown plaid that can be worn with earthy tones. And then also having a grey one that can be paired with black.
Invest In A Good Fit
A great blazer should fit you well in the shoulders and the waist. It should be tailored to flatter your body and show off your shape. I personally like a slightly elongated blazer as I think it helps to lengthen your body and slims you. All good things!
Don’t Go Too Trendy
Every season there’s always some sort of a trend when it comes to blazers. Puff sleeves, tie details, the length itself, and so on. I always recommend sticking to something more classic. You can always add in a less expensive yet trendier piece to try out for the season. But if you want something that will last season after season, I recommend investing in a more classic staple than a trendy piece.
Five Plaid Blazer Outfit Ideas
A Simple Slipdress
I totally forgot about this slipdress in my closet and had to style it with this long oversized blazer. It’s almost like a jacket, but not. This look is great for wearing out on the weekends for drinks. It’s sleek, fashion-forward and also classic at the same time.
Business Casual With Jeans
Since I almost always worked in a casual work environment, I am all about that business casual look with jeans. And my favorite way to do that is by topping them with a great plaid blazer. For the office, just add a crisp white button down to make it even dressier. This is a great way to do business casual for meetings, or the office. But also nice for a put together outfit for dinner.
Transition Those Summer Shorts
The ideal way to wear a plaid blazer at the end of summer is to pair it with shorts. Depending on where you live, you can swap the sandal for a loafer or ankle boots. This is also a fun way to make jean shorts and a tank feel a little more dressy and fashionable too. For transitioning from summer to fall, this is the ideal way to do just that.
Go Casual In Jeans & A Tee
Forget business casual, you can dress this down even more by throwing it over a tee. Or I guess you’re dressing UP the tee. It’s, however, you want to look at it. Swap the loafer for a fun sneaker or Converse too. This is a fall staple look for me but usually with a black leather jacket. This is a good reminder to swap the leather for a crisp plaid blazer!
To The Office
Just pair your fall plaid blazer with your favorite work pants. Pull out the color in the plaid and voila, you have a perfect outfit! This blazer had some burgundy in it so I paired it with burgundy pants for the office. Or pair it with the matching pants. This suit from last year has been a great piece to wear as separates or together for business meetings.
