I don’t know about you, but I tend to romanticize summer a bit. It’s a season for pool parties, backyard BBQs, weekend getaways and fun in the sun. Summer just brings some nostalgia out of everyone I think. I have vivid memories of summer days as a kid and it’s hard to not want to recreate and recapture those memories year after year.

How Would You Spend Your Ideal Summer Day?
Crafting the perfect summer day is a goal I always have when the weather is perfect, and especially on a holiday weekend. If I had to choose a few things to do for my ideal summer day, I think it would look a little something like this.

Morning
While I’m not someone who sleeps in, it would be nice to start my day with the perfect 8.5 hours of sleep. My ideal amount of time where I am asleep by 11, and up by 7:30, 8 would be great.
A delicious iced coffee on a patio before the weather warms up too much and it’s no longer pleasant outside. I like that room temperature temp that you don’t need more clothing, or less, no sweating, nothing. A slight breeze is a plus.
Maybe start the day with a walk with a friend, or solo while listening to an audiobook. Late breakfast or early lunch on a patio with friends before heading into the afternoon.

Afternoon
Then it’s straight to the pool for sun tanning, a dip in the refreshing water to cool off, listening to some tunes and snacking on fresh fruit and chips. You obviously have to have a good pool sandwich. It’s required. And finish with a popsicle for dessert.
I’m a pool person, not a beach one, so my preference will always be to sit poolside. Bonus points for it overlooking a beach. Me and sand are not really friends, you know?
Then you must, and I repeat, you must take a post pool nap. Get back from the pool, have more snacks, shower, then crash hard on the bed. Just a short nap, we don’t want to waste a beautiful day. But it’s needed after being in the sun.

Evening
Here’s where you really reflect on how great your fucking day was. You get ready with your friends, put on your cute outfit on your freshly bronzed skin which instantly makes you feel 10 times more beautiful. It’s a fact. And then you head out, preferably braless, in your favorite linen pieces for dinner.
Dinner is a backyard bbq, always. There’s something so satisfying about hot dogs and hamburgers, pasta salad and freshly steamed corn with butter and a fuck ton of salt and pepper. To me, that meal is the epitome of summer. You finish the night off with freshly cut up watermelon and some sort of strawberry crumble situation with ice cream.
Shop The Look

Okay, if you’re feeling really summery, you then head out for an impromptu ice cream run. You pile all your friends into the car blasting Taylor Swift or some sort of throwback jam like ‘Living On A Prayer’. And you must, I repeat, you must scream sing it with the windows down on your way to the ice cream shop.
And once you arrive, you get your favorite scoop of ice cream on a cone and ask for a side of sprinkles. Because every lick and bite of an ice cream cone should involve sprinkles, period. And that is the only way to ensure proper sprinkle to ice cream ratio.

and that my friends…
And that my friends, is the perfect way to spend an ideal summer day. Full of good foods that make me think of summer, good times with friends and family, and a little relaxation too.
