I’m not sure how I feel about the saying “I don’t have any regrets”. I mean, really? None? You didn’t wish you dumped the boy sooner? You don’t regret not being nicer to people? I guess it’s all subjective. But there have been things in my life I just wish I did sooner. Small little things like finally buying a puzzle during a pandemic to stay busy. To bigger things for sure. I tend to dwell on those things too. If I do something and realize “well shit that was amazing I wish I just did this sooner”. And I hate that I missed out or didn’t get to enjoy more of whatever that is for longer.
So learn from me, today I’m sharing a few things I’m so glad I finally did and just wish I did sooner!
Things I Wish I Just Did Sooner
Dump The Shitty Boyfriend
A common one probably, but for me the biggest. I regret not getting rid of my college boyfriend one year into our four year relationship. So many red flags. So much of it felt like a waste of my time and my early twenties. I was young and think that played a big role in it. But if you’re reading this and somewhere in your gut is telling you this isn’t the right relationship, get the fuck out. It’s just not worth it. You’ll be upset with yourself that you didn’t do it sooner. It’s time you won’t be able to get back.
Remodeling My Kitchen & Bathroom
A common reason for not renovating can sometimes be “we’ll do it before we sell” as if that means you don’t have to still deal with the renovations. I can assure you, enjoying your renovated kitchen or bath, whatever it may be, is well worth doing it now. Make your surroundings enjoyable and exactly how you want them. You won’t regret it. And even if it just means painting that damn wall finally. Just do it!
Getting My Nose Re-Pierced A Third Time
A more recent realization as I recently headed to my local piercing studio and got my nose re-pierced for the third time. I went in the 8th grade to get my nose pierced and I’ll never forget walking into class and everyone thought it was fake. I loved it so much and had it for years. It fell out at some point in high school and eventually got it re-pierced. Then it fell out again and I guess my teenage self was too irresponsible to get it taken care of. For years now I’ve been wanting to do it again since EVERYONE I know seems to have one. Finally, I did it. And the first thing I said to my high school bestie was “I wish I did this sooner”. I love it so much and hate that I went YEARS wanting it and kept talking myself out of it.
Purging My Home
Working with Kinga of Bring Delight on doing KonMari was a massive project. You can see our process here! I was stuffing my home full of crap for years and it just kept collecting and building up. This purge was long overdue and I ended up getting rid of 30+ bags of clothes and shoes and more. It was such a great feeling once it was over and man how I wished I did that sooner.
Getting Curtains
This seems silly, but it’s something I was procrastinating on for oh, a decade. I knew my house needed them in my living room but I just never did it. Finally, I worked with Rachael Snow of Snow Studio and finally got myself some grown up curtains. I still need to get bamboo shades, but my home feels so much more complete and polished with my white velvet curtains.
Things I’m Thankful I Never Wasted My Time To Do
I think there’s plenty of things I could still come up with on things I wish I did sooner. But looking back there are things I’m so glad I didn’t hesitate on at all. Things I think you may be thinking about doing but aren’t sure yet. And I’m here to tell you just do it. Here’s what I’m so glad I didn’t think twice on.
Starting A Blog
It was 10 years ago and sure things were different, but I’m so glad I just jumped in. You can sit and plan all day long but you won’t know what your business really needs, especially a unique one like blogging until you get going. Start, learn, pivot, figure it out as you go. For all you know one part of your blog may be the one thing that takes off and you had no idea. Or the thing you were focused so heavily on is a total flop. It happens. Trust me. But you won’t be able to figure those things out until they get out in the world to sink or swim. Learn how to start a blog here.
Traveling
I know it’s a position of privilege to be able to travel as much as I can with my self employment. But I’m here to tell you that traveling is worth it always. It’s one of the few things you spend money on that truly creates incredible memories and experiences for a lifetime. This post on scoring cheap flights is how I manage to travel on a budget. Just do it, make the time for it, don’t wait for the perfect flight or perfect whatever.
Taking Care Of My Skin
Just trust me, wear that SPF. We’ll all be thankful in the decades to come that we wore it. It’s important for not only preventing skin cancer, but it’ll keep you from aging so fast from that sun damage. Cleanse that skin, wear your SPF and maybe do a mask every so often. This one is my favorite. And PS you can see my full skincare routine and what everyone should be using for a complete routine here.
