There are few things in my closet that have lasted years and years. And they’re usually my denim, my beloved leather jacket, and my J.Crew coats. I have this grey chateau parka coat from many many years ago. It’s warm, cozy and flattering. I love that it comes back year after year at J.Crew reminding me that it was 100% worth the price.
And let’s be honest, nowadays, there is always some sort of a sale happening. So never, NEVER, pay full price. It was time for a bit of newness in my winter coat collection. Okay, there really wasn’t a need at all as I have way too many coats for someone who lives in the south. But nonetheless, this navy windowpane cocoon coat was calling my name.
PS right now their coats are on major sale, so be sure to grab one before they’re gone for the season!
Are J.Crew Coats Worth The Price?
The quick short answer, hell yes. But let me tell you why.
The Fit
The fit of their coats for me, has always been consistent and flattering. There are also several different styles to choose from like the cocoon coat which is more boxy, to their lady coat that has some more shape to it. But either way, they just fit really well.
Sizing
J.Crew knows that they’re the go to for classic winter coats so they have a wide range of sizing from regular, petite and tall. Sizes also range from 00 to 24.
For me, their outerwear runs true to size for me. I typically wear a size 4 in their coats, or a small, and find them just roomy enough to layer a bulky sweater underneath.

The Warmth Factor
Whether the coat has the stadium cloth-wool which adds warmth but not bulk, or their Thinsulate insulation that’s supposed to be much warmer (and a lot less bulky) than down. They’ve nailed the warm coat that isn’t a giant down puffy coat. Although they have those too when you want a puffer and might I add, I have one that’s lasted me many many years. This stadium cloth-wool technology and Thinsulate helps to keep the freezing temps out and keep you warm. You won’t feel the wind coming through the knit of your coat. Plus, I’ve tested these out in snow storms in NYC and the slopes in Vermont, a great sweater, or an extra layer, and you’re good to go underneath these coats.
Classic Styles
I kid you not when I say they have the same damn coats year after year. Proving that these winter coats are classic! And clearly popular enough that they keep bringing them back every single winter season to keep us warm and looking great. They’ll add in some fresh colors and prints (like today’s navy windowpane) but overall, you can find these at J.Crew every year. And to me that’s a good sign that they’re worth the investment.
Functionality
From perfectly placed pockets, to removable fur on the hood, many of these coats have great functionality making them an ideal item in your closet. And ones you’ll enjoy wearing every single day to get you through the cold months.
