Labor Day is just a week away on September 7th. Which makes me kind of FREAK out that we’re talking about September. But here we are and Labor Day is around the corner. It always marks the start of the new season and new outfit choices.
But first, we have to celebrate the weekend. It’s a great send-off for the summer so grab your sundresses and floppy hats and let’s finish this season out in style.
And let’s also finally debunk the no white after Labor Day rule. What are your thoughts on it? I’m not a believer in the rule but there are some exceptions to the rule. As with all rules, right?
I am a believer in no white summery fabrics once the weather truly turns to fall. But I think you can totally wear white linen in September if it’s still 90 degrees. You can not wear white linen in December when it’s freezing cold out.
Instead, choose ivory wool or cashmere to make up for the lack of white in your wardrobe during the cooler months. That’s my take on the no white after Labor Day rule.
9 Labor Day Outfit Ideas
Linen Jumpsuit
The easiest and I think most chic of all of these options, a linen jumpsuit. Linen is always a great option for warm weather since it’s breathable! – Photo by Jess Ann Kirby
Florals
A floral little dress is always a great idea. Like today’s midi look, I’m all about it. Adore this Reformation dress on Kat Tanita. I think I just may need to grab it! Pair with a straw hat and bucket bag for a summer ready look. – Photo by With Love From Kat
White Jeans
If you’re going to live by the no white after Labor Day rule, then today is your day to WEAR ALL THE WHITE. I love this lemon printed shirt paired with white jeans and neutral accessories. Perfect for just about anything Labor Day activity will throw at you. – Photo by M Loves M
Red, White & Blue
A classic summer holiday weekend outfit always includes a little red, white and blue, right? This Gal Meets Glam Collection dress has been a closet favorite this summer. Since you can dress this up or down, it’s super versatile for the long weekend festivities.
Summer Sweater
Yes, a summer sweater is definitely a thing. And with the temperatures starting to back off a bit (at least in some places) this is a great option. Pair with denim shorts so you stay summery of course. – Photo by Glitter & Gingham
T-Shirt Dress
The easiest dress to throw on and go. This is great for a backyard BBQ, picnic or just hanging out at the house with friends. Add a military or denim jacket and tie around your waist to give some shape. And don’t forget the hat, it’s a holiday must! – Photo by Merrick’s Art
Colorful Eyelet
Go bold in sunny yellow and eyelet. Eyelet is definitely a fabric you should STOP wearing once fall comes so pull your favorite eyelet dress out for that BBQ! – Photo by Poor Little It Girl
Ruffle Tops & Shorts
A fun ruffle off the shoulder or one-shoulder top is always a great idea. It’s a fun easy way to spruce up jean shorts and a top!
And fun fact, Kendi Everyday was the first fashion blog I ever followed and am secretly in awe that she follows me (and comments!). – Photo by Kendi Everyday
High Waisted Shorts
The most classic summer outfit. Denim shorts and white linen. This look was featured last week and I re-wore it the other day as well. So comfy and put together all at the same time. Wear this to a pool party and throw your bikini on underneath, or to dinner with friends.
