This cocktail is a slight throwback to my college days when lemon drop shots were all the rage. While outgrowing this go to sugary concoction, I began to work at a bar for the remainder of my college years. I always sort of cringed when someone would order them.
I knew the hangover they’d suffer the next morning would be severe all thanks to the sugar in these sugary lemon cocktails. The best was when someone would order a lemon drop martini. I just can’t imagine sipping on such a sweet drink. The idea of throwing back one single shot in a few seconds was about as much as I could stomach.
Sparkly Lemon Fizz Cocktail Recipe
Now that I’m all grown up, I think it was time to make this college classic a little more grown up as well. Sweetened with just the bubbles of champagne and slightly tart from fresh lemon juice and vodka. It’s a nice departure from the overly sweet lemon drops I remember all too well.
For this lemon cocktail recipe, I use infused lemon vodka for an additional level of flavor. You can always just use regular vodka, or even a different citrus if you like. It adds such a nice flavor and helps to enhance the fresh lemon in it as well.
I promise these won’t be anything like the lemon drop martinis with the sugar rims that you suffered through college with. If you want a sweeter lemon fizz, just use a sweeter champagne, or add a bit of sugar to the shaker.
INGREDIENTS
- 1.5 ounces of vodka – an infused vodka in a lemon or some sort of citrus is perfect for this too
- Juice of half a lemon
- Top with champagne
METHOD
In a cocktail shaker add your lemon juice and vodka along with ice. Shake vigorously. Strain into a coupe glass and top the rest of the glass with champagne. Garnish with a lemon peel.
