Now that it’s officially after Labor Day, it’s time to really chat fall fashion. And the one thing I’ve seen just about at every single store is leopard print. Actually, ANY animal print. Snake print, zebra print (remember that one?!) and everything in between. I’ve always been a leopard fan. And although it never truly went away, it’s definitely here in a BIG way this fall. The other fall trend I’m seeing everywhere are midi length dresses and skirts! I personally love when they’re a bit more fitted like today’s dress so you highlight your shape instead of all the fabric swallowing you up.
I picked up this leopard midi dress back during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. And it sold out almost instantly. The annoying part of the sale, but man was this such a good deal. This is nearly identical and much better quality. I ended up grabbing it in a floral print too that’s so easy to style outfits with. The thing I love about this dress is how versatile it is! I wore the floral version in Boston out to dinner with a leather jacket and booties for a more dressed-up edgy feel. And for even more outfit ideas, it could work great for a meeting with a black blazer and a simple pump. Or come winter with an OTK boot and black sweater over it.
Midi dresses and midi skirts too, are such easy outfits for fall. They’re the perfect transition pieces too. Wear in early fall with sneakers, and into the cooler temps with tights or knee high boots. Here are three great styling tips and outfit ideas on how to wear a midi dress for fall.
3 Ways To Style Midi Dresses For Fall
To start any of these looks, begin with a pretty midi dress that you feel great in. I love when they have a bit of a slit so you can see a touch more skin and it helps to elongate your legs. Since these dresses hit between the knee and ankle, it’s nice to show off a bit more skin if you can! But for the office, maybe choose one that doesn’t. I also prefer a midi dress that’s a bit more fitted. This midi-length can be overwhelming on some people, so keeping it slightly fitted or at least showing off your shape, you’ll look and feel taller and thinner!
Before we style this closet staple multiple ways, let’s start with a good foundation. Below are a few of my favorites that you can wear year-round and style them up, down, into each season and beyond. Plus, a few fall ones that are just too good to pass up!
Go Cool Girl Style
Add a leather jacket, black bootie and maybe even a hat to spruce it up. Whether your midi dress is floral, leopard or a solid color, it’ll feel super cool and new with these additions. This is my go-to uniform for fall. I truly LIVE in my leather jacket and highly recommend investing in a good one if you wear them often. They’re worth the price and will last you year after year.
This type of outfit is great for date night, or cocktails with friends. And you can make it dressier or more casual depending on the midi dress you choose and shoe choice all while still being that cool girl style you’re going for.

Styled For The Office
You can update your favorite midi dress for the office with a few options. A long cardigan like a duster is always a good choice. And you can also belt it to give you some shape too. Or a structured blazer is a great option that also adds some shape without an uncomfortable belt. Be sure to keep any major slits in mind. You’ll want things to still be at or around the knee, nothing higher! Lastly, add a classic black or nude pump to keep things professional.

Weekend Casual
My favorite way to wear it is like I did in today’s look. Simple sneakers, my platform chucks are a favorite but an Adidas or Veja works too. And you can browse some of my favorite platform sneakers here. You can also lean into fall with a bootie too! Something casual like a Chelsea boot works nicely for a more casual vibe. Then top with a denim jacket or bomber jacket. You can also add on a cozy sweater over the top so the midi dress acts as a midi skirt instead. This is always a cute way to style a dress. And if you need some more shape, just belt the whole thing!
