You all know I love a good primer. I have to glue down any and all makeup to my oily face. So why are we all avoiding this step with our lashes? If you’ve never tried a lash primer before, today’s post is for you. And you’re probably wondering, what does lash primer do? Using a lash primer, I like the super affordable (and effective) L’Oréal one, will help to make your lashes longer, more full and voluminous. While also keeping your mascara on a bit better and avoiding clumps. I never skip this step now when doing my makeup. And there’s no reason to splurge on expensive designer versions. This drugstore favorite is all you need and I promise, you’ll love it! I’m dedicating today’s post to my beloved lash primer that I believe every woman should have in their makeup bag.
Loreal Mascara Primer Review
Applicator
I really like the applicator brush of this product. It does a good job of grabbing my lashes and coating them with the primer.
Benefits
Not only does this allow your mascara to last much longer, but it helps to condition them over time. This helps to leave them soft and nourished. If you want even more conditioning (and help to grow your lashes) check out my favorite lash serum here.
How To Use The L’Oréal Voluminous Lash Primer
Step One Curl Your Lashes
I find this to be a crucial step for me now. If I don’t curl my lashes, they just don’t look as great. It’s an extra step, but I think one that’s 100% worth it. Curl your lashes before step two.
Step Two Apply Your Lash Primer
Apply a coat of the L’Oreal lash primer to your top lashes which will coat them in the white product. I personally skip my lower lashes, but you can totally apply this to them as well. You want to place the brush at the base of your lashes and then sweep upwards. L’Oréal actually recommends applying a coat of primer followed directly by your mascara to avoid the primer from drying. You can apply two coats of this product as well to amplify your lashes even more.
Step Three Add Your Favorite Mascara
Then apply a coat of your favorite mascara. I recently switched to tubing mascara which you can learn more about my favorites here.
L’Oréal Voluminous Lash Primer Review
The moment I first tried this product, I was mind blown. I use a primer before applying my face makeup every single day to make sure it all sticks to my very oily face. So why wasn’t I applying a primer for my mascara? My mascara would always end up transferring to my skin (which is sometimes a mascara formula issue but also can be prevented big time with primer). I found that applying a primer first allowed my mascara to not transfer as much and also made my lashes look thicker. It was adding another layer of something for my mascara to grab onto.
And while some people may love their designer mascara primer, I really don’t think you need to splurge. This product is super affordable and is a great drugstore find at only $7.99. I typically use this primer with the coordinating Voluminous mascara in carbon black. As someone with somewhat sensitive eyes (many mascaras irritate my eyes badly) I have found this line doesn’t bother me at all.
