Every season, I start to see a trend with what I gravitate towards when I’m getting dressed. It’s especially obvious when I’m throwing something on for a last-minute get-together. Usually, it’s a pretty good indicator of what I love most in my closet and what I feel best in. And this entire summer, let me tell you the two things I have not stopped wearing. It’s these Madewell Momjean shorts and this Banana Republic tank.
Right before I headed out to Arizona earlier this summer for my first real girls’ trip since 2019, I was in need of new shorts. Naturally, after a year at home, I had put on a few pounds and needed some new shorts for the hot Arizona heat. These LOFT shorts were my savior. But I was needing a few pairs of denim shorts. Since, you know, I’m denim obsessed. Obviously. Insert the Madewell Momjean.
Madewell Momjean Review + Sizing
I saw a few fellow bloggers share these shorts and thought, okay, time to head into the store to try some on. I ended up leaving with two other pairs of denim shorts. But it’s the Momjean that is reigning supreme in my closet. They’ve got a great high rise (12 inches to be exact), which is fine for me with a long torso. For my shorter torso gals, you may not love the rise. But I say, give it a try.
And for the inseam, I’m usually a 3-4 incher and these are 4 inches which is just perfect. They’ve got a looser fit in the thigh which I need. And have a button fly. They run big though. I’m usually a solid 27 in Madewell. And these are the 26. Since I’ve lost a couple of pounds, I’ve found these to be a tad big now and may actually grab the next size down.
These shorts are 100% cotton so they will feel stiff and tight at first. But they’ll give over time and mold to your body. Mine have definitely stretched out, and with a few lbs lost, I will be washing them in warm water and actually putting them into the dryer so they can shrink a tad now. I usually wash all my denim in cold water and air dry. It’s my #1 denim tip to keep them looking their best.
Styling Mom Jean Shorts
The way I’ve been styling my mom jean shorts is with a good-fitted tank or tee. It just pairs really nicely with the more relaxed fit of the jean shorts. I’ve been living in these Banana Republic tanks. I was so shocked I even found something at Banana that I liked. I haven’t been in the store in ages. But when I went shopping for my Arizona trip, I really lucked out at the mall. Always a good feeling when you find the good stuff (and on sale!) and get to come home with a bag of goodies. It’s so much more satisfying to me than online shopping. I’ve also styled these with a pretty summer floral tank here that has a more relaxed fit. Thanks to the high rise of the jean shorts, this also creates nice proportions even if you go more blousy on top.
