I’ve been a fan of MERIT Beauty brand for a little while now. Personally love their bronze and blush balms the most. And I have found myself reaching for their lipsticks a lot lately. MERIT is a beauty brand that was launched in 2021 by Katherine Power. Power also founded Who What Wear and Versed Skincare.
Katherine Power’s goal with MERIT is to create a clean and effective beauty brand that is minimal. Just the essential products that work well and fit into your life effortlessly. Based in Los Angeles, this brand is growing in popularity and for good reason.
MERIT Lipsticks
I have always loved the MERIT lipsticks and with a few new options to shop now, I wanted to share a review of my favorites. While I have my MERIT Beauty Review post that covers all the products I’ve loved, I wanted to dive into the lipsticks specifically. With many different lipstick shades and two formulas to choose from, satin or matte, here are my thoughts on MERIT signature lipsticks.
As with all of MERIT lipsticks, they are vegan and cruelty-free. Plus, the pretty tubes are made with 30% recycled plastic making you feel a little better about supporting a brand that also wants to support the environment.
MERIT Lipstick Review
There are two types of MERIT lipsticks to choose from. Satin formula or a matte formula. With 16 colors to choose from across two formulas, there is something for every personal style, all skin tones, and vibe. While there are only two types of lipsticks to shop for at MERIT, they do also offer a tinted lip oil that you can always wear over these lipsticks or on its own.
The Satins
The Satins are going to be your classic satin finish. These are a lightweight lipstick formula and aren’t heavy at all like traditional lipstick. I also find that the color is lightweight and buildable. You can layer on a lip liner for even longer wear.
The formula of The Satins includes plant-derived squalene and sunflower seed oil which allow for long-lasting moisture. Your lips will never feel dried out from wearing this product which is one of the reasons why I love it so much. You can wear these lipsticks for hours and you never feel like you have to frantically search for your chastick. It almost feels like a lip balm it’s that hydrating!
A few of my favorite colors from the Satins include Merit Millennial which is a classic pink. It’s a soft pink not a bold hot pink or anything. Great for every day. I also love and wear MERIT lipstick in Cabo a lot which is a soft red orange. This looks great against a fresh tan in the spring and summer. While this is technically a warm red, and my skin tone looks better with cooler reds, I still really love it! Some rules are made to be broken.
For fall and winter, try Merit Tiger which is a brick red and great for those rich hues in the cooler months. And shade Fashion in the MERIT Satins is a good berry hue.
If you’re more into nudes and browns, MERIT Slip lipstick is a warm neutral, almost reminds me of Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk but not as pink. A berry brown option that also feels great for fall and winter is the MERIT L’Avenue shade.
The Mattes
The Mattes are also packed with hydrating ingredients like plant-derived squalene and sunflower oil. Even though this is a matte formula, I do not find these drying at all. They still feel like a nourishing lipstick with a slight matte effect.
A few shades I personally own and love include MERIT Sunday in the perfect bright pink. I love this shade for spring and summer. And for your classic reds, Vermillon is a warm red which is good for those with warm undertones in their skin. And if you have cool undertones in your skin, you’ll probably find the Power shade in the cool red to be more flattering. This is a classic rule of thumb when it comes to finding the best red lipstick for your skintone.
A couple of other shades to consider are Maison and Classic. These two are Matte shades you can wear all year round as more neutral berry shades. I love them both and find them super flattering and great for every day.
