Over the years I’ve been noticing a signature look of mine developing. And it’s the slip dress. Well, yes it’s also all things denim. But that’s been my whole life.
Right now, I have noticed that I am leaning in really hard on slip dresses. My collection is growing and I’m quickly finding new ways to style them. And one of the most recent additions is this M.M.LaFleur printed slip dress. And it is simply perfection.
The Slip Dress Obsession Continues
My one complaint about slip dresses is that it can be hard to find one that isn’t shapeless. Or, that is far too tight in the boobs and butt area, and then loose in my waist. I find that you have to be stick straight to make a lot of these work and well, I’m not.
So when I find a slip dress that actually hugs my body in all the right places, I have to have it. I’ve found a few other the yers that work with my figure. J.Crew has been pretty good for me. This black slip is a great one. And Reformation dresses usually fit me pretty well in the slip-dress silhouettes like this Provence dress. And then the Madewell Leyton dress is a new find as well.
Nothing fits like this dress.
But none, I repeat, none, fit as well as this one from M.M.LaFleur. Surely it has something to do with the price point. They’ve definitely put in a more thoughtful design to make this the most flattering slip dress. The dress is cut on a bias which I think helps to create a true hourglass shape so it hugs in all the right places. It’s the most beautiful cut and fit.
The fabric is also incredible. It’s washable silk and it’s truly a breeze to wash. And the best part is when I packed it for Italy, I was able to pull it out of the suitcase and wear it as is. No steamer is required. It really travels well and that is another nod to the thoughtful fabrics at M.M.LaFleur.
A reminder for me that spending a little more on well-fitting clothing makes all the difference. I think I tend to be in this mindset that I want more clothing, so I need to spend less on each item so I can accumulate more.
How I’m Styling My M.M.Lafleur Slip Dress
My Third Piece Trick
Throwing a sweater over my shoulders has become my go-to. It’s the easiest third-piece trick that I now swear by. It’s also the best way to keep you warm indoors while the AC is blasting. Here’s how to wear a sweater over your shoulders for the easiest third piece lazy hack.
A Neutral Sandal And Bag
I have worn this dress a few times now and have done a neutral sandal and even a high-top Converse. It’s versatile in that it can be dressed up with a high-heel neutral sandal or espadrille. You can really dress this up or down, which is one of the reasons why I love a slip dress.
As for my bag, this is my Sezane little jute bucket bag that I have been LOVING. It’s the perfect size. While it feels very small, I use a card case instead of a big wallet and that makes a huge difference. And finish it all off with Sezane sunnies.
A Reminder I Need
The older I get, the more I realize the pieces in my closet that were more expensive and truly were made with better fabrics and fit in mind, are the ones that make me feel my best and stand the test of time.
