Recently I took a quick, very quick, flight to Savannah Georgia and drove about 30 minutes to end up at the stunning grounds of Montage Palmetto Bluff. You could also easily drive there in under 5 hours from Atlanta. Once you arrive, you will feel like you’re in a whole new part of the country. So close yet oh so new and different.
As you drive into Montage Palmetto Bluff and it’s 20,000 acres, you are instantly blown away by it’s beauty. Located on the May River, this Lowcountry destination is pure luxury but also feels casual and welcoming, just like the southern hospitality you would expect.
There’s everything here at Palmetto Bluff. The community offers homes, villages, cottages and an Inn to stay at. There are 7 restaurants on Palmetto Bluff, a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, fishing, water activities, a stunning spa and more.
You’ll for sure stay busy, or you can choose to relax and unwind. You decide. But either way, you’ll do it in style with exceptional service.
5 Things To Do At Palmetto Bluff
I could list out another dozen things to do while visiting Palmetto Bluff. This destination had so much to offer and I honestly was blown away. Montage Palmetto Bluff is truly the Hamptons of the South and it’s a must visit. We did all of the things in our very quick trip to ensure we could try all the activities they had to offer.
We had such an incredible time and am so thankful to have been invited down with some great bloggers like my pals Jessica of Kenzie & Coco and Josh of The Kentucky Gent. Always nice to visit new places with them!
Explore Palmetto Bluff By Bike
It’s no secret that riding a bike is one of my favorite activities to do. It’s so relaxing and makes for the ideal way to get around a destination and explore. The hotel offers the perfect little bikes to take out on a ride around the area.
Explore the beautiful houses and cottages, head to RT’s Market for an iced coffee on draft and the best oatmeal cookie ever. Or get lost on the trails and get a bit of a workout in.
Lounge Poolside
I really wish I changed my flight the last day so that I could stay at the pool all afternoon. But alas, I’ll just have to go back. We didn’t get much time to lounge, but the pool was so breathtaking and there were several to choose from. Plus, be sure to visit Fore & Aft at the pool for the best guacamole and ceviche for a little lunch.
Hit The Water
I am happiest on the water, second happiest on a bike. So when we had an early wake-up call for sunrise kayaking I wasn’t thrilled to be up so early but was super excited to be on the water. It was so calm and beautiful.
We got a full tour of the Lowcountry and got to see dolphins! It’s the only place in the world like it. We also heard the oysters opening and closing, it was like they were clapping, so neat. And to top off the morning, we caught a gorgeous rainbow. What a way to start the day.
If kayaking isn’t your thing, you can also hop on a boat and explore. We went out with our skipper, Gio, to Paige Island. A tiny little getaway on Palmetto Bluff where we set up for a few hours with wine and snacks.
Some folks did some fishing, while others jumped off the dock. And well I and the gals gabbed for hours about dating and life. The perfect way to spend an afternoon.
TIP: Bring bug spray with you if you plan on being anywhere near the water or deep into the woods. Or really anywhere if you’re like me and always get eaten alive.
The humidity and being near so much water is a recipe for mosquito disaster. Each room had bug spray in it as part of their typical bath products which was such a thoughtful touch!
Try A New Sport
I loved that there were so many activities to try at Montage Palmetto Bluff. Whether you want to go play a few rounds of golf on the stunning Jack Nicklaus golf course or try paddleboarding to fishing, there are so many options.
We decided to try sporting clays which is just shooting a gun at a clay target. It’s actually REALLY fun. I’ve done it before and loved it. If you have any hesitation about guns, this is honestly a great way to learn how to safely operate one with incredibly educated, patient instructors. It’s also a great stress reliever!
Explore Old Town Bluffton
One night we headed into town to explore and do dinner. We took a boat over and had to snap a pic. We took a pedicab around the town and learned so much about the history of the area. After our tour, we headed to FARM for dinner. Hands down my favorite meal of the trip.
The roasted Calibogue Sound oysters were incredible, and I am still thinking about the sweet corn agnolotti. So very flavorful.
There are quite a few restaurants to try out in the area here and tons of live music. Plus, the town has a yoga studio, some shopping and more. Definitely, plan to spend an afternoon here and finish with dinner and music!
A few other notable things we did…
In addition to all these incredible activities we did, we also did a few more! After clay shooting, we did a private cooking class with chef Nate and enjoyed fruits and veggies straight from the farms on the grounds.
We also did a conservancy tour to learn all about the wildlife that lives here and how they’re preserving it. There’s tons of great activities as well for kids to get in on the action and do some learning too!
One evening we dined at Cole’s (best fried chicken I may have ever had) and then wrapped up the night a game of bowling. There’s just so much to do, the list goes on!
But lastly, do not forget to check out the spa. It was incredible. The Tata Harper collection is offered and it’s a Vermont based company with super clean products that are also effective (my favorite combo!).
