While I may be someone who absolutely loves denim, I have one thing I need to admit. I don’t branch out much. The majority of my denim drawer is Madewell. For many years, when I worked at Nordstrom and just early 2000s life, I was a fan of 7 For All Mankind, Citizen of Humanity and Hudson jeans. They were a must have back then!
I also had some Paige denim and Blank NYC. But as of late, it’s mostly Madewell. They’re my favorite. More recently I’ve been adding in some LOFT and Everlane. And now, Pistola. And I’m loving them. I feel like I finally have variety!
The thing I’m loving about Pistola Denim, which is a California-based denim brand that was started back in 2013 by Grace Na, is that they’re more than just denim. In addition to great jeans, they also have other ready-to-wear items like sweaters, jackets, jumpsuits and more. And I’m finding myself reaching for their pieces more and more so a full review of Pistola Denim was in order.
Pistola Denim Review
Pistola Jumpsuits
Parker Jumpsuit
The first thing I ever bought from Pistola was this Parker lilac romper. And I loved the fabric so much and the fit is so good. I have a longer torso so I was worried about the length of it. I ended up in a medium but wish I went with the small. However, both felt fine in the length for my long torso which says a lot!
Grover Field Jumpsuit
A few months later, I did get the Grover Field jumpsuit version in a small and it’s a perfect fit. Again, so comfortable, the fabric is super soft and feels like pajamas. They’re so easy to style too with just your favorite cool sneakers and that’s it. Easy, casual and cool.
There are many styles of jumpsuits and rompers that Pistola Denim offers. Below are some of my favorites. They are some of my most loved items in my closet and so easy to style!
Pistola Denim
I now have two pairs of their denim and am ready for more! The two pairs that I have are the black flared jeans and also a kick flare coated jean. Since these two styles are not my go-to everyday denim, I can’t speak to the fact that that they’re ones I’d live in.
However, they fit nicely, are comfortable and flattering. I typically find myself in a 27 or 28 which is my usual size. I’m eyeing some of their other denim so I’m hoping to add more to my closet and can report back. But both of these are great additions to my closet and feel new and different.
I’ve also tried the Tammy utility pants but have something so similar that I didn’t keep them. But this is a high rise trouser style I’d love to add to my closet. They come in new colors and prints every year.
Cassie Super High Rise Straight
My new favorite straight leg jeans in my closet. I regret going up in my usual size in these (I took a 29) as they have stretched out in the waist. I should’ve taken my usual size 28. They are 99% cotton and felt just a tad snug in my usual size. So take note, they should be snug, they will give after about 30 minutes!
The Cassie super high straight leg jean has a 12 inch rise with a 31 inch inseam. I cut my jeans as I have short legs (I’m 5’5 but have a long torso). The Cassie comes in tons of washes. And even in faux leather and the utility cargo style. And if you are short, you may want to try the crop styles as well. But I am not one to shy away from tailoring or cutting your jean hem!
Pistola Lennon Pants
If you’re into a kick crop, the Lennon pants are for you. They come in classic denim styles and washes. But I really loved these brown coated ones for fall. The coated denim definitely shows more imperfections. I preferred sizing up in these.
Stevie High Rise Flared Jeans
The perfect flared jeans. I love a bell bottom for fall and winter. These have an 11-inch high rise and they are just the perfect amount of flare. Not too wide and not too bootcut. I would wear the black wash for work if you can get away with denim. PS more ways to style bell bottoms here.
Pistola Charlie Straight Ankle Leg
Another great straight leg option are the Charlie straight-leg ankle jeans. These white ones with a raw distressed hem are 100% cotton so they don’t have a ton of give in them. They have an 11 inch rise and hit at the ankle.
The Pistola Charlie straight ankle leg comes in lots of washes and they are all the ankle length. Great for those with shorter legs or who like to show off a little ankle as I usually do in a straight leg.
Pistola Denim Sweaters
This light blue sweater has quickly become a closet favorite. The weight of the sweater is perfect. Plus, I’m someone who is super particular about the fabric of sweaters. Anything with the tiniest amount of itch to it is a hard no for me. I am beyond sensitive when it comes to that.
This one is a cotton-poly blend so it doesn’t have any itchy stuff in it. And while that can sometimes feel cheaper, I found this to feel like a high-quality sweater with the weight and knit of the fabric. I love it so much.
The fit is slightly oversized but I went for super oversized and sized up to a medium. A small would’ve fit perfectly too. I’d say these run true to size as well.
Pistola Denim Jackets
This utility jacket was actually one of my first purchases from Pistola Denim. I live in my utility jackets for spring and fall as the perfect light layer. But my boring one felt like it needed an update. I’ve had it for years and felt like it was finally time to add something new and fresh to my closet.
While browsing Revolve, I stumbled onto Pistola Denim and that’s what started my new obsession. That order from Revolve included this star print utility jacket and the romper. I love this utility jacket so much for many reasons.
It’s insanely soft and comfortable and the fit is great. I like that it’s a bit more loose and relaxed versus a more structured utility jacket. I take my usual size small in their jackets.
Pistola Denim Sizing
For sizing, I found Pistola Denim to be pretty true to size. Always keep in mind fits and fabric. So any 100% cotton denim is going to feel snugger but will stretch out and mold to your body over time and end up fitting perfectly.
I found myself most comfortable in a 27 when there was some stretch. And a 28 if there was zero stretch.
For the jumpsuits, a size small works great for me and I also have a long torso. I didn’t have any issues with their jumpsuits or rompers in the length of the body at all. I usually struggle in most brands with jumpsuits, but I know I can always make a Pistola jumpsuit work.
And lastly, for tops and sweaters, I took my usual size small. This blue sweater is actually a medium because I wanted a more oversized fit. But overall I’d say Pistola Denim runs true to size overall.
Where To Buy Pistola Denim
I originally discovered Pistola on Revolve, but they do not have a huge selection of their product. To find all their items, you can shop directly on their website here. They offer free shipping over $150 but do not cover return shipping which is a bummer. You can also shop them on Shopbop, Saks and Nordstrom to name a few.
