When investing in good quality pieces for your closet, the first thing I always like to ensure is that they are versatile. I’ll never want to spend a lot on a beautiful blazer, or a fantastic pair of trousers, unless I know I can get some use out of it.
If I can’t dress it down with my favorite denim or cotton tee and Converse, then it’s not worth the money in my book. And that’s one of the many reasons why I really love M.M.LaFleur and their power casual pieces.
They fit the criteria of being versatile to go from a work meeting where I want to feel and look put-together, to laid back and casual to run errands, or grab lunch with a friend.
What Is Power Casual?
Power casual is a uniquely coined term by M.M.LaFleur. And when I think of how I like to dress, it’s pretty much just that. The mixing of elevated pieces (those power pieces) and complimenting it all with something more casual like a relaxed tee, or pair of jeans. Or just add a sneaker.
The fact that pieces can go from day to night, office to work from home, is what Power Casual is all about. So today I want to show you exactly how you can take their power or casual pieces, to mix and match great looks for anywhere your day may take you.
The Curie Pant
The perfect skinny work pant that can be dressed up or down. The Curie pant is a great pair of pants to have for your 9 to 5 wardrobe. You can easily wear them for business casual, or more dressed up.
I love them with a chunky loafer and sweater. But you can always pair it with a ballet flat and a blazer or a great cardigan. This Snyder jacket would be great as well layered over a top instead of a traditional blazer.
The Blazer Dress
Let’s take this perfect classic blazer dress and see how versatile it is. Style it with a flat chunky loafer and socks, or even a cool sneaker for a more casual look. This would be great for your more relaxed dress code office, or to head to a co-work space to get some work done.
But take this out for a spin on date night by yes, unbuttoning just one of those buttons, adding a sexy sheer tight and a high heel. This may actually be one of my favorite looks. It’s just so fun and sexy!
Skirt And Blazer Set
Wear this houndstooth skirt and blazer together for a meeting or to the office. But use the pieces as separates to get even more wear out of them. You all know I love a blazer, so I’ll be pairing this piece with my favorite denim or faux leather leggings. But the skirt is so good and I just love it. It’s perfect just simply paired with tights and a sweater for fall.
Simply add a long trench or coat over it to complete the look. This Whitney skirt has also been seen on the blog before in leather here. It’s a really great fit and length and I take my usual size in it.
Adjustable Hemlines
Lastly, one of the coolest things about this brand is that some of their bottoms come with adjustable hemlines. What does that mean? Take the Milo pant, which is the perfect trouser by the way. It has interior snaps at the hemline so you can adjust it according to your shoe choice.
Take the pant up about 2 inches by snapping the hem in place. It’s really that easy! Below are all the pants that come in adjustable hemlines.
Sizing Tips
If this is your first time shopping at M.M.Lafleur, here are a few sizing tips. I’m 5’5″ and typically wear a 4 or 27 in Madewell and Loft. In M.M.LaFleur, I am almost always a size 4 in their bottoms. I found to be more comfortable in the 6 in the Curie pant. In dresses, if they’re more fitted, I size up to a 6.
The blazer dress fit in both a 4 and 6, but the 6 was more comfortable and felt like it wasn’t pulling in places. As for tops and blazers, I’m typically a small or 4 across the board. If you’re in-between which I would consider myself to be, definitely size up as I feel like I am on the cusp on some pieces.
