I think it’s safe to say this year has been a wild one. COVID has forced us to stay home a hell of a lot more than ever before. So much so, that it’s made us do some interesting things. Try new things, tackle projects, and figure out ways to stay entertained. Or buy new things that we never thought we’d use or want before this new era. And most importantly, started new habits like long walks and cooking more. I know I’ve found myself surprised by some of it throughout the last 8 months.
With that, I thought I’d share a few things that quarantine made me do these last few months. Some are habits I hope to continue, projects I’ve been meaning to tackle for a while, and purchases that I now swear by.
The Things Quarantine Made Me Do
Painted My House
I’ve had grey walls in my apartment for years now. And before that, classic 2000 yellow-beige. You know the color. I think weeks on end of being in my apartment made me so sick of everything inside of this space. It was time for a change. So I finally decided to paint my walls. I headed to The Home Depot and picked up several gallons of Chantilly Lace and went to work. It took a while as I didn’t realize I would need two coats. But after two weekends, it was done. And my house feels so much lighter and brighter with white walls.
Came Up With A New Blog Name
Well and also decided to redesign the whole damn thing. I wasn’t expecting to dive into a new website and brand this summer, it just kind of happened. It was definitely a fun project to work on as it took several months to work on. Learn more about the new name here.
Swapped Out My Door Handles
My doors are your typical builder grade crappy doors and I’ve always kind of hated them. The thing I hate the MOST about them though are the silver beat up handles. And the rusted disgusting, painted over hinges. I knew I wanted to swap these out but never tackled the project. Finally bought these gorgeous matte black modern handles and WHAT a difference it made. So worth the mini project. As in, each handle takes all but 5 minutes to swap out and is super easy. Hinges are next!
Bought A Fanny Pack
During the spring, I started going on lots of walks. The weather was gorgeous and I was enjoying my podcasts and audiobooks on my walks. I was sick and tired of carrying my phone, key and mask on these walks that I finally caved and bought a fanny pack. I picked up this one from Herschel Supply Co and have gotten way more use out of it than I ever expected.
Started Listening To Audiobooks
One of my 2020 goals was to read more. And I’ve definitely done just that. Here’s how I did it. But one way I got through more books was listening to Audiobooks. With my long walks, it was a nice option instead of a podcast. It’s helped me get through more books in 2020 which has been nice. I’ve definitely been in a slump and haven’t been reading as much so time to get back into it.
All The Walks
Clearly I’ve been going on more walks. This has been a nice change of pace to be honest. Although I desperately miss my workouts at FlyWheel and Barry’s, walks just aren’t the same. But they help to get me moving and allow me to listen to my audiobooks and podcasts. They’ve also been a nice way to connect with friends safely during COVID. I’ll head on walks with a friend from the neighborhood, or meet up with a pal at a trail to explore a little bit. It’s something I hope sticks around once this is all hopefully over soon.
