As a kid living in Montreal, we had to wear tights every day to school. We went to a private school and had the cutest little uniform. But at 7 years old, can you blame me for hating having to wear them and put them on every day?
I wish I could have appreciated the perfect little schoolgirl uniform back in the day. Now as an adult though, I’ve fallen in love with tights. They’re great for so many reasons from extending your closet, to making your legs look beautiful with sheer pantyhose. Here are just a few reasons why I’m loving my Hanes® lately.
The Best Tights To Wear This Fall And Winter
Having good quality tights is key when it comes to fall and winter. There are a few good reasons why I love to wear tights for these two seasons (more on that below!) and having a few great pairs that are high quality really make all the difference when getting dressed.
For super cold weather, I like a pair of fleece-lined tights to stay super warm. These are ideal for winter outfits and are a must-have! I have the Plush brand ones. I do feel like it could have more control at the top, but they’re super cozy and warm.
And for something that adds a little interest to your outfit, a patterned or even a colored tight is a really fun option. My favorite brands include Hue, Commando and SPANX for that added shapewear benefit. They’re all great options to add to mini dresses and skirts, even shorts, and help to add that final touch to an outfit.
5 Reasons To Wear Tights
1. Extend Your Closet
I feel like so many of my dresses or skirts are limited to just the summer or springtime. Or super warm fall weather. The same goes for shorts and rompers. But so many of them can easily work with a nice pair of tights to bring them into the new season and extend the wear of your favorite pieces.
When I think of all my mini dresses and skirts that would be too cold to wear in cool weather, adding tights totally changes that. Outside of dresses and skirts, this little lace romper would be great with black tights, boots and a leather jacket.
I’ll also be wearing this entire outfit again with some black tights. Think outside the box of just your dresses and skirts. Tights can be paired with all your shorts and rompers, too!
2. The In Between Weather
Atlanta has a very extended fall and the weather is super finicky. When it’s cool out, but not super cold, I don’t want to sweat in jeans and a sweater and all the layers. So adding tights to your look are a great way to stay a little warmer without having to ditch all your skirts and dresses.
3. Be More Confident
There’s something about wearing tights that makes me feel more confident and comfortable in what I’m wearing. Probably the fact that if my skirt flips up, or my legs aren’t perfectly crossed, no one gets a show. These black Hanes® tights also have a ComfortFlex® knitting technology top that helps to smooth me out when wearing fitted pieces.
4. They Go With Everything
Back in the day, there weren’t a ton of options for tights. It was really just a pair of opaque or sheer black tights in a few basic colors. Now they have so many fun colors and even prints. This allows your tights to work with just about everything in your closet.
5. Hide Inconsistencies With Skin
The winter months will usually mean for most of us, that your tan fades. Between that fading tan, and not wanting to shave your legs every single day, nude pantyhose are a great way to create an airbrushed and sleek look on your legs. They just make you look a little more polished and help to blend away any imperfections.
The Best Nude Tights
Personally, nude tights aren’t my thing. But when I put them on with this fall look below, I was pretty impressed with how natural it looked. And, how it made my skin look flawless. A nude tight or pantyhose can really make your look feel complete and polished. With so many nude shades to choose from now, you can find the perfect match for a natural look.
Another great option is to try a sheer brown tight. I love this as a softer alternative to black sheer tights. I wear this with all my brown pieces.
Sheer tights are having a big moment right now. Sheer black tights are a great update to the opaque black tights. When shopping for sheer tights you’ll see different options called ‘denier’. Denier is the weight of the fabric in the tights. Basically, this lets you know how sheer the tights will be based on the denier number.
Thicker, more opaque tights, have a higher denier number. Where as the more sheer you go, the smaller the number gets. A 10 or 20 denier is quite sheer and is what I prefer to wear now over opaque. The below sheer tights range from 10-20.
